One thing that the Judiciary Dems were catching flak for was the repeated questioning about the FBI investigation. The knock was that they were ignoring all of Kavanaugh’s other sins and just repeating a question that had been asked and answered.

But damned if it didn’t stick. And look where we are now.

Would the delay and investigation still be happening if the Dems hadn’t asked the question so many times? Maybe. But even with a couple of Republican senators asking for an investigation, the idea really didn’t get any traction until the Dems hammered the question 10 or 20 times.

It was a lot smarter of a move than it appeared at the time.

It is. If they’d hit him with the scattershot that critics claim would have worked better, or focused on his finances which we’re told is the goldmine that would kill his candidacy, then the GOP probably would be voting on his confirmation today because Flake and others wouldn’t feel the same pressure to give the FBI another go. They’d be able to argue that the DNC doesn’t seem to care much if the matter is thoroughly investigated and treated Dr. Ford’s allegations as an excuse to have another go at Kavanaugh, so why should they waste the Senate’s time on a “witch hunt”?
