Well, you’re right, I should have distinguished—the short composite bow came in with the Central Asian nomads like the Mughals. The Aryans had the traditional longbows, and that’s what would be depicted in the Hindu scriptures.

The longbow was great for hunting, but the rate of fire that could be attained with short composite bows made mounted archers the terror of Asia.
