Right. My dad was raised in south Louisiana and he often referred to himself as a ‘coonass,’ so I don’t find that term as offensive as maybe I should.

You still shouldn’t use it in congress, partially because a lot of people are only going to hear the ‘coon’ bit and partially because a lot of cajuns hate the word, even if others embrace it.
