If some dipwad sends a death threat to the “Letters to the Editor” column of the local newspaper, they won’t print it. They might also call the cops.

Facebook doesn’t do that, and hides behind “we promise we’ll do better next time.” Then the next time. Then the time after that.

Newspapers, television, and radio all employ editors. Faceborg doesn’t.

On this quiet corner of the Interwebs, our esteemed host Mr. Johnson will banhammer someone immediately if they post illegal content.

Over at the more lively Wonkette, when they started getting porn advert trolls they empowered non-commentators (including me) to banhammer them. When someone created a Disqus account and posted the murder porn from Facebook, the management took swift action against that (and temporarily suspended posting photos and Facebook links).

Once again, I fully support regulating the shit out of that stuff. I just think the kill Facebook attitude is childish IMO. Regulate the medium. I’m merely stating that individual based social media is a different character than print media. You wrongly have this idea that everyone on FB is politics. Some of us and I include myself are pretty apolitical on there.
