Thing is, nothing I’ve seen shows Romney is a risk taker. Quite the opposite, he seems to be risk adverse. That has a large part to do with the reality that the base is only tentatively on his side and very likely will abandon him if he does not conform to their crazy ideology all the way to Election Day. So I don’t expect him to do more than continue to offer vague promises while trying to lob as much shit as he can Obama’s way in the hopes that something will stick.

That’s actually the greater risk, though. Newt’s idea of being actually presidental (meaning offering policy goals and outlines and defending them) has a greater chance of delivering a victory than simply “looking presidential”.
