Shocking, I know. The GOP wants to prevent the defendants, journalists, and even the courts themselves from obtaining information about the policies, procedures, methods, and drugs used in executing prisoners on Death Row in the state of Ohio. They want to obscure fact that the states that use lethal injection are experimenting on these convicted felons since the availability of the drugs of choice for executions has dried up. And the people administering the drugs are themselves not necessarily expert at what they do.

I think it’s simpler than that: in an era of tight budgets the Ohio GOP wants a return to lower-cost methods of execution. Stoning, beating to death with cudgels, or throwing the condemned to the lions at the Cleveland Metropark Zoo would not only save the state money they’d provide millions in pay-per-view cash.
