In a lot of ways, it was. I’m still of the opinion that Trump’s original plan that day was for a sizable group of counter-protestors to show up that he’d direct the MAGAts anger towards and declare that “they” were the ones that he’d talked about when he spoke of the need to “fight” for the country. The violence would have been limited the grounds outside the Capital Building, he’d have felt comfortable calling in the National Guard while Congress was evacuated, and then had plenty of excuse to lock down the building from reentry until it could be “secured.” Thus while it was up in the air if Congress would have time before midnight to finish the count, the effort to get the SCOTUS bench to weigh in would have had time to make an “emergency appeal.”
