Depends on what you mean by “worse”. Despite all the cheering what we are actually witnessing is media consolidation. As mega corporations continue buying radio stations, TV stations and news papers there’s less room for independent voices and controversial opinions. The programming is just filler between commercials for boner pills and detergent and anything that interferes with that will be avoided to protect corporate sales. Political talk radio won’t go away any time soon but what will replace Linbaugh and Hanity? Sports talk is still safe in local markets, maybe top 40 music programming bought from some generic media conglomerate. Whatever it will be it will be boring and safe. That’s why we don’t have Howard Stern or something similar any more. It’s not safe for corporate profits.
But that’s not all bad. Once radio becomes unprofitable for mega media corporations maybe somebody will find something interesting to do with it again.
