It did that after the Normans took over Britain. It’s gotten much thicker skin since then.
Nah, that was just like English dating a French guy for awhile and picking up a few phrases from him to throw around.
The niftiest part of that is the food stuff.
Since the Normans were the ruling class, the words for the foods are all french— beef, mutton, etc. The words for the animals are all from old english— cow, sheep, etc. Class division wrought in language. Kinda nifty.
