Well I can understand — not support, but understand — their line of reasoning. To wit: If we let people marry others of the same sex, we’re broadening the list of ‘what you can legally marry’, so what stops it there?

Until there is a movement to legalize polygamy, it’s a strawman. Prop 8 and DOMA both targeted marriage equality/gay marriage. Neither lawsuit against Prop 8 or DOMA were fighting for polygamy. It’s a leap further than the grand canyon to go from marriage equality/gay marriage to polygamy.
