I saw Tom Petty in Miami, probably in the late 80s, maybe early 90s. The show was great but the thing I remember… we had parked downtown and taken the Miami Metromover to the old Miami Arena (now torn down). Anyway, Petty didn’t sing American Girl and in the train car on the ride back, everyone was commenting about it. The car was packed, like 30 people. All of a sudden one guy goes, “Well, she was an American girl.” And another guy goes, “Raised on promises.” And pretty soon, the entire car was singing and dancing and grooving and what not. It was super cool.

Not only is Petty a great show, but he’s traditionally kept his ticket prices affordable. I saw him five or six years ago and lawn seats were only $20.

That’s pretty awesome for a guy who packs ‘em in like Petty does.
