they really thought they could not only hide it but bury it while
- they didnt realize they were leaving a not too hard to follow trail of paper
- they hadnt quite figured out how to not answer questions/ not be helpful (and they werent good at lying / deception)
- there were too many people involved - eventually someone was gonna slip or outright crack
- no one expected there would be a mark felt

I am willing to consider there might be a Mark Felt type working in the shadows against Trump.

I go by the simple thinking there are always good people in every situation. It takes time for them to get a feel for what is going on, the danger if they talk and then they decide to surface, and once they do, we may never know about them until years later. Just like Mark Felt.
