The analogy I keep going back to is the endgame of the Peloponnesian War. Athens had to win every single battle. Sparta only had to win one.

Unless the GOP manages to suddenly start nominating sane candidates again, we have to face up to the likelihood that they will win an election and effectively end democracy at some point. Hoping to draw an inside flush every four years isn’t a strategy.

You’ve got it backwards, though. There are more of us than them. They have only won the popular vote once since 1988, and that was still under the shadow of 9/11. THEY have to win every battle. Trump can’t lose a single case. Republicans can’t afford to lose House seats. They have to gerrymander the shit out of things just to stay in the race.

They’re on their heels, not us. We’re just fighting for every inch because we started slow.
