I’m pretty sure it’s fake—we have no prose from the 8th century (or the 7th, or the 6th)—Plato had great habit of attributing quotes to others, especially Socrates, who never wrote a word. Everything attributed to him is from Plato—period.

Of course, older generations have been complaining about younger generations since hominids first developed language. Before that, the old folks just grunted and shook their heads a lot.
