My sister’s cats are like that because she leaves a mountain of dry food out for them all the time. Obese and with some kidney trouble.

One of them looks like a barrel with a piece of string taped to one end.
(Very sturdy cat, very skinny and stubby white tail).

That’s the biggest problem right there. We used to do that. It’s like we thought they were going to starve but that wasn’t the case. They’re not like birds that require a constant stream of bird seed.
