I didn’t mean to imply that:

Rather, that brackets are artificial in a sense that yes, the are simple and that’s why we have them.

I’m saying that if we went to a continuous curve that was adjusted yearly to cover government spending, each of us today have the processing capability to figure our taxes owed rather easily without the simplification of brackets.

My point is that the simplification of brackets is important in a practical sense. Enough anti-tax morons don’t understand (or pretend to not understand) simple tax brackets that this kind of ‘black-box’ approach would be more trouble than it’s worth, IMO.

Plus I do think there is value in knowing for sure what the tax rates are in advance.
