This is the old ideal vision of America: everyone as a self-sustaining, sovereign citizen on their own piece of land, we enter into no contracts agreements except out of our own initiative. We need no government to interfere in our right of self-determination.

To bad it was already a fading vision at the time the Constitution was framed…
