There was a HUGE ruckus in my hometown circa 1971 or so. The graduating class chose “Imagine” as its class song, and we had letter after letter after letter in the local rag condemning the students for choosing such a commie-loving/atheistic song.

Even back then we had Neanderpthals.

The song SUCKS no matter what the lyrics are.
