In a lot of ways it didn’t. In some ways it did.

Dad forbade my brother and I from getting into downhill and grand slalom. I wanted to race, but he was in no mood to watch gates on the weekends. I firmly believe he did me a favor keeping me off the course and enjoying recreational skiing…
