Of course you have just described how the hard right sees compensation itself.

The little people are supposed to be wage slaves who are given a few scraps from the master’s table as a matter of charity.

Oddly enough, at some point high enough on the corporate ladder, this viewpoint reverses and only then does it become a matter of recruiting and retaining the best talent by providing high compensation.

Not only that, but if you pay poorly paid people even less, they’ll work harder, whereas if you pay well paid people less, they’ll work less. Conversely, if you pay poorly paid people more, they’ll work less, but if you pay well paid people more, they’ll work harder.

Similarly, if you simply keep people from starving, freezing in the street, and dying of untreated illness and injury, they’ll lose any motivation to work, whereas giving someone a salary in the hundreds of millions annually won’t motivate them to bank the cash and fuck off till they get fired and live the rest of their lives on more money than most Americans will see in a lifetime.
