Sharron Angle Goes on Walkback

Wingnuts • Views: 5,125

To no one’s surprise, in her interview with Nevada reporter John Ralston yesterday, Tea Party extremist Sharron Angle started trying to walk back some of her earlier disastrous statements: Sharron Angle grilled on Social Security, Medicare and ‘taking Harry Reid out’.

In her TV appearance Tuesday, Angle said that she now believes in protecting Social Security by placing the funds needed to pay for current obligations in a “lockbox” while also allowing some manner of privatization for future recipients. On the phrase “take Harry Reid out,” Angle said she misspoke and has since changed her choice of words to “defeat Harry Reid.”

“I was speaking broadly about the Constitution, and that was the context of that rhetoric,” Angle said. “I admit that was a little strong, ‘taking out,’ but you know what I meant.”

“I don’t know what you meant,” Ralston replied.

If this weren’t such a transparently false claim it might be funny. Here are Angle’s actual words; she wasn’t “speaking broadly about the Constitution,” she was very specifically referring to “Second Amendment remedies” when she made her outrageous comment about Harry Reid:

You know, our Founding Fathers, they put that Second Amendment in there for a good reason and that was for the people to protect themselves against a tyrannical government. And in fact, you know, Thomas Jefferson said it’s good for a country to have a revolution every 20 years.

I hope that’s not where we’re going, but, you know, if this, this Congress keeps going the way it is, people are really looking toward those Second Amendment remedies, they’re saying my goodness what can we do to turn this country around? And I’ll tell you the first thing we need to do is take Harry Reid out.

This isn’t even a dog whistle; she’s standing on the corner of Far Right Avenue and Tea Party Boulevard, shouting “Come and get ‘im, droogies!”

She may have tried to obfuscate this remark about Harry Reid, but in the interview she still managed to sound like a complete wacko, reiterating her view that people on unemployment insurance are being “spoiled,” insisting that abortion should be denied to victims of rape or incest, and pushing the religious right’s nonsense that the separation of church and state is not part of the Constitution.

According to Angle, “Thomas Jefferson was misquoted” when he wrote about the need for separation of church and state, an appallingly false statement that comes straight from the Dominionist wing of the religious right.

For the record, these are President Thomas Jefferson’s words, from a private letter to the Danbury Baptist Association in 1802:

Believing with you that religion is a matter which lies solely between Man & his God, that he owes account to none other for his faith or his worship, that the legitimate powers of government reach actions only, & not opinions, I contemplate with sovereign reverence that act of the whole American people which declared that their legislature should “make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof,” thus building a wall of separation between Church & State.

I always liked that bumpersticker. If people like Angle are elected, I may need to buy one while I still can.

Is there anything (other than the Bible) that these weasels will not claim is figurative rather than literal?

” Let’s drag all the liberals into the street and hang them from the nearest lamppost.”
Later:
“I meant, uh, that we should drag their collectivist ideology out into the street of public opinion and expose to the street light of enlightenment and debate to expose the error of their thinking process. It’s just a metaphor. Yeah, that’s the ticket, a metaphor.”

The wingnuts keep going on about how the Government should serve the people, and how we shouldn’t trust the Government because they might take away our rights.

Somebody should point out in an interview to these idiots that if these aspiring candidates actually get elected, then they are the Government, and then ask if they should ever be trusted with being the Government when they just said that the Government shouldn’t ever be trusted.

Biden warns of GOP ‘blitzkrieg’

Republicans are preparing for a “blitzkrieg” of attacks against Democrats, Vice President Joe Biden warned in a letter to supporters.

You see! You see! The Tranzi/Dems use violent rhetoric too and the state-controlled media gives them a pass on it!
/wingnut

The difference (needless to say) is that someone using a privately owned firearm to “take out” a disliked politico is much more of a literal possibility than the Republican Party assembling a tank army to run the Democrats out of DC.

What Jefferson meant to say was not “wall of separation” but “hall of reparation” - i.e., the state sets up this building, see, and every time a citizen takes the Lord’s name in vain, he has to come there and be pilloried or pay a fine.

That’s all the Dominionists want. Why do you people seem to have a problem with that?

Anybody remember the famous doublespeak by Ronald Reagan?

Facts are stupid things.

He meant to say “stubborn.” I guess he slipped up, repeated the same mistake a couple times before he finally said “Facts are stubborn things.”

…Facts are simple and facts are straight
Facts are lazy and facts are late
Facts all come with points of view
Facts don’t do what I want them to
Facts just twist the truth around
Facts are living turned inside out
Facts are getting the best of them
Facts are nothing on the face of things
Facts don’t stain the furniture
Facts go out and slam the door
Facts are written all over your face
Facts continue to change their shape…

Having spent many hours reading a variety of books, letters, and quotes from Thomas Jefferson, I can say in all certainty that he would have thought Sharron Angle was an unhinged whack-job. Anyone who tries to imply TJ3 was a Christian is either an idiot or a liar or both.

Just for a lark I Wiki’d Sharon10 pounds in a 5 pound bag I know Wiki is scatter shot at times, but what a smorgasbord she is. I guess I’ll take her advice and take that “perfectly good job” with part time hours, low pay and no benefits and raise my family with a single income as she endorses. Spoiled me. It’s a shit storm out there boys. A shit storm.

Unless you pray loudly in public, and make loud protestations of your faith in public and attempt to make the tenets of your particular faith law then obviously you aren’t a serious Christian.

Nevermind Matthew 6:5-7

5And when thou prayest, thou shalt not be as the hypocrites are: for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets, that they may be seen of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward.

6But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly.

7But when ye pray, use not vain repetitions, as the heathen do: for they think that they shall be heard for their much speaking.

Jesus said we should pray in a manner far removed from how almost every Church now does it…So do you think Jesus was right or the men who are supposedly “preaching his gospel” 2000 years later?

Sigh…I can’t attend church anymore, because they all so obviously ignore or blatantly contradict what Jesus himself said.

crap. :(
