Christine O’Donnell: Biden and the Liberals Are Out to Get Me

Politics • Views: 25,866

In one of the most predictable reactions of the year, Tea Party wacko Christine O’Donnell responds to the news that she’s under investigation for personal use of campaign funds by concocting a conspiracy theory.

In a statement issued Wednesday, O’Donnell also suggested the investigation was the work of Vice President Joe Biden, the former longtime senator from Delaware.

“Given that the King of the Delaware Political Establishment just so happens to be the Vice President of the most liberal Presidential administration in U.S. history, it is no surprise that misuse and abuse of the FBI would not be off the table,” she said.

A spokesman for Biden’s office had no comment on O’Donnell’s allegation.

O’Donnell, who shocked Republicans with her surprise primary victory over Rep. Mike Castle last fall, also told CNN the investigation is evidence of the political establishment’s ongoing vendetta against her.

“Keep in mind, that we upset the Delaware political establishment,” she said. “And we beat their so-called untouchable incumbent. There’s a vendetta to stop this movement in its tracks because if the citizen politicians continue to rise up and put the career politicians on notice, we are going to continue to put the political establishment on notice.”

Biden's out to get her?

Isn't that a bit like being afraid of Shaggy and Scooby?

Moreover, Shaggy made a latex O'Donnell mask and made a wacky campaign video about not being a witch. Got it blamed on her and everything.

She should go after him for that.

Shouldn't Biden be figuring out how to get O'Donnell the NEXT Republican nomination?

Can you explain this comment in more detail, please?

Conspiracy theories thrive on alledging that the missing pieces in their theory are secrets kept by the very theories that they asserted in the first place. If modern technological will provide for a culture in which leaks about important conspiracies become commonplace, the basic assumption about secrecy protecting the conspiracies will become less of an attractive rhetorical device for conspiracy theorists.

Listen to Alex Jones' broadcasts over the last months. He is already now switching to the spin that the New World Order supposedly got so bold that it acts out its conspiracies in the open for everybody to see. It's a really weird transformation in that particular subculture of nuttiness that is now taking place.

re: #25 Obdicut

I still have no idea what you're talking about. What leaks about 'important conspiracies' do you think are becoming more commonplace? Can you give an example?

Conspiracies as in the very basic and banal definition that Assange uses: "simply any network of associates who act in concert by hiding their concerted association from outsiders, an authority that proceeds by preventing its activities from being visible enough to provoke counter-reaction."

And I think of those there have been several revelations in the Cables. I, for once, had not seen an official confirmation of the German and the US governments having "conspired" in the el-Masri case before.

That these basic, banal conspiracies might come to light more and more (or simply become less because of higher maintenance in security) might change the factual backdrop on which fantasies about NWO, Illuminati and the Elders of Zion are played out. That's what I was getting at.

32 Obdicut  Thu, Dec 30, 2010 10:08:03am

re: #31 000G

So, for example, a sealed court would count as a conspiracy? A gag order against reporters giving the name of a rape victim would count as a conspiracy?

That these basic, banal conspiracies might come to light more and more (or simply become less because of higher maintenance in security) might change the factual backdrop on which fantasies about NWO, Illuminati and the Elders of Zion are played out. That's what I was getting at.

Why do you believe this, though, other than your usual desire to put Wikileaks in a positive light? Why on earth would revelation of 'conspiracies' diminish the belief of conspiracy theorists in other conspiracies?

Unfortunately for Ms. O'Donnell, she lost the election. Had she won, as Charlie Rangel could tell her, the worst penalty she might face would be a verbal rebuke on the floor of the Senate.

May I interrupt the stupidity of Christine O'Donnell with some wonderful news, that actually helps Haley Barbour a bit.

From Benjamin Jealous:

If you have not already heard, we have great news: Gladys and Jamie Scott will soon be free.

Last night, Mississippi Governor Haley Barbour suspended their sentences, and the sisters are returning home for the first time in 16 years. As those of you who have been following this case are aware, Judge Marcus Gordon had condemned each of the women to double life sentences for an $11 robbery – an outrage emblematic of the biases systemic in our criminal justice system.

I saw that earlier. Releasing them from prison to save on healthcare costs.

The crime was dastardly, though. The fact that they only got $11.00 does not mitigate the crime to me, however.

From the story I read.

The sisters were convicted in 1994 of leading two men into an ambush in central Mississippi the year before. Three teenagers hit each man in the head with a shotgun and took their walletsmaking off with only $11, court records said.

Sure. There's a chance I was behind it too. However, the others, who actually committed the crime, did get a plea bargain out of the deal. The lawyers representing the sisters was later disbarred. There was no actual evidence that they were the ringleaders. The only evidence offered was that of the other criminals, who received lighter sentences in return for that testimony.

re: #32 Obdicut

Sure. Again, I am trying to use the term in a neutral way, not in order to fight political battles. Don't try to straw-man the nefarious meaning on me!

Why do you believe this, though, other than your usual desire to put Wikileaks in a positive light?

Why do you believe that I have a "usual desire to put Wikileaks in a positive light"?

Why on earth would revelation of 'conspiracies' diminish the belief of conspiracy theorists in other conspiracies?

No, not in others, but in the same. And "belief" as in "this is some kind of nefarious NWO psyop". The cables released by WikiLeaks revealed a lot of "conspiracies" that turned out to be rather normal diplomatic stuff, some scandalous, some shocking, but certainly no grand scheme for world domination and mass extermination through fluoride and vaccines. Alex Jones and co. will have to go harvest elsewhere.

To help you understand my point better, you might want to read this piece by Nick Davies in the Huffington Post, in which he, among other things, justifies the Guardian's publishing of evidence against Assange in the case of the two swedish women. I will quote this here:

And by publishing our story, we achieved something: Julian Assange was forced to admit, in interviews with the London Times and with the BBC, that there is no evidence of a honeytrap. That matters very much. The news media don't want to report that -- there's a much better story in the dirty tricks. Some of the most active tweeters and the bloggers have not picked up on it -- they are much too happy with their conspiracy theories. The celebrity disciples like Bianca Jagger don't mention it. They simply move on to insist that there must be another conspiracy at work in the legal process. But the honeytrap story is dead: our story killed it.
