Chris Christie’s Debate Prediction

Dream a little dream for me
Politics • Views: 36,517

I don’t blame Chris Christie for saying stuff like this — he has to. He has no choice. Facing (and admitting) reality is just not an option in today’s Republican Party: Christie: Debate Will Turn Presidential Race ‘Upside Down’.

If Mitt Romney’s campaign is worried about measuring debate expectations for Wednesday night, Chris Christie hasn’t gotten the message.

“This whole race is going to be turned upside down come Thursday morning,” the Republican governor from New Jersey told CBS “Face The Nation” host Bob Schieffer Sunday. Christie pointed to the Republican presidential nominee’s performance in the primary debates, saying the debates will be an opportunity to speak with out being “filtered” or “spun” by Romney’s critics.

Christie acknowledged Romney had had a “rough couple of weeks,” but that Wednesday’s debate would turn the race into a “barn burner”.

“barn burner”.

Well, why not? Willard has already torched so many American industries he might as well start on the ag sector.

Can he tweet that so we can put it side by side with Dick Morris's prediction?

Those must be some kick ass zingers the Romneybot's been programmed to spew

I'm praying that he accuses the President of "apologizing for America" so I can watch Obama just tear that nonsense to shreds

Funny, that sounds exactly like what they were saying about Sarah Palin in '08. She could finally connect and without being filtered by the biased lame stream media.

Worked out well.

How does that work, when the audience can now respond in real time?

60 seconds is a looong time for Mitt to wing it in front of a microphone. And he has to do that over and over again.. He's toast.

24 jaunte  Sun, Sep 30, 2012 12:21:44pm

John Donvan, at the Washington Post:

Imagine what Wednesday night could be like if, instead of working through a bunch of small-bore questions, Obama and Romney had to take sides on a single motion: “Government Is the Problem.” Or “The Wealthy Should Shoulder More of the Burden.” Or “Marriage Is Between a Man and a Woman.”

Those are some big resolutions. And when two people spend 90 minutes taking opposing stands on them and backing up those beliefs, they are forced by the format to go deep, to tell us why they believe what they do, how they arrived at those beliefs, where they may be flexible on them, and where they cannot be. That would be revolutionary. And it would be a real presidential debate.

I have little doubt that Romney will be very vocal about reminding the TV audience that Obama's position on same-sex marriage has changed over the years. He will do this on the assumption that Obama, being an honest man, will show some embarrassment about the fact that his position on same-sex marriage has "evolved".

Gack. For people who profess to believe that any sort of consenting-adult activity is just fine, what is this business of tacky puns suggesting that Romney might be an inch the other side of Biblically pure? Would this be any fault in him? How many people are there who these sorts of zingers would not fit?

As to the merits of the thing, Christie is a cheerleader right now, not an analyst in the booth. He predicts three and out, followed by a brilliant series of passes that scores a touchdown in the waning seconds. That's what cheerleaders do.

And bear in mind, he believes that the GOP positions are closer to what will be good for the nation that DEM positions. He's seen DEM positions at work in NJ, and so have the voters of NJ, and they chose him to clean up Corzine's mess. Corzine, meanwhile, went on to make new messes in private industry.

That's cherry picking, because there are good DEM governors and bad GOP governors, but cherry picking is what people do when they pick a side.

Ryan: ‘It Would Take Me Too Long’ To Explain Tax Plan’s Math

Paul Ryan responded to criticism that the math in Mitt Romney's tax plan doesn't ad up by telling "Fox News Sunday" host Chris Wallace it would take too long to explain.

“You haven’t given me the math,” Wallace said during an interview that aired Sunday.

"It would take me too long to go through all of the math,” Ryan said.

Actually, no, Christie might be playing a game of his own here. Romney's team has been doing everything they can to lower expectations for the debate. Even the stuff about how he's studying zingers may be lowering expectations, since it's such a weird thing.

So, if you think about it, Christie may be trying to put Mitt in the hot seat here, rather than actually give him the boost.

In audio obtained by a Tampa-area radio station, the woman made the remarks directly to senior citizens, but her comments were recorded by an answering machine from a previous number:

Well think really heard, you all sound like senior citizens, no? …. Yea, you don’t want Obama, you don’t want Obama because he’ll get rid of your Medicare. You might as well say goodbye to it. … Yea, and I don’t know if you have done any research on Obama or not, but he is a Muslim. He has got a socialistic view on the government, economy, the whole nine yards. If he had his way, we would be a socialistic country. …. Pay attention to Fox News. Film Sliming Obama Parents Hits Swing States

For a while now, pictures purporting to show Obama’s mother, Stanley Ann Dunham, modeling in 1950s bondage and fetish porn have been floating around the darker corners of the Internet. Now, though, they’ve made their way into a pseudo-documentary, Joel Gilbert’s Dreams From My Real Father, which is being mailed to voters in swing states, promoted by several Tea Party groups and by at least one high-level Republican. At the same time, Dinesh D’Souza’s latest book, Obama’s America—the first of all his works to hit the top spot on The New York Times bestseller list—has a chapter essentially calling Dunham a fat slut. If Obama is reelected, it’s hard to imagine where the right goes from here.

It’s tempting to ignore Dreams From My Real Father because it’s so preposterous. The movie claims that Obama’s actual father was the poet and left-wing activist Frank Marshall Davis, who Dunham met through her father, who was a CIA agent merely posing as a furniture salesman.

I wonder if this will actually help get the GOP votes or backfire on them...

Looking at the Amazon reviews, I think the Gilbert people are doing some 5-star spamming:

"After watching it a second time, from begining to end, I was so glad I did. Turned out there was an abumdance of information packed into this video. The case made here that Obama's real father is Davis is very strong and compelling. Aside from the question as to who the real father is or is not, for me, is not the strong point of this video. Mr. Gilbert did an excellent job at putting all the puzzle pieces together in order to give a realistic and sobering picture of who this man is that is in control of our country - scary!"

So does Rupert Murdoch own the New York Times now?

WASHINGTON — There may be only one impediment to President Barack Obama’s maintaining his small lead in the U.S. election over the next week: arrogance.

For all the focus on the first debate between Mr. Obama and the Republican presidential nominee, Mitt Romney, in Denver on Wednesday, history suggests these forums are rarely settled on substance; Mr. Romney and the president are both smart and cautious, not gaffe-prone. The very few game-changers in debates occur when a candidate makes a mistake or exposes an unattractive personality trait.

Mr. Obama and his top political advisers are basically contemptuous of their opponent, according to people who have spent time with the president in private. Four years ago, the Obama camp viewed John McCain as wrong for the times, but had personal respect for him.

It’s different today. The president’s campaign sees Mr. Romney as an out-of-touch stiff without core beliefs, willing to say or do anything for political advantage.

Fair or not, that’s a derisive characterization.

It is the expression of that viewpoint, not any substantive shortcomings, that poses the greatest danger for the president in the debate. Even with a seasoned veteran, Jim Lehrer of “NewsHour” on PBS television, serving as moderator, you can expect the two candidates to stick largely to their programmed views and responses. More compelling and revealing would be for the candidates to question each other in freewheeling exchanges. This is off the table.

Here's the rest

Why isn't this considered defamation of some kind? This is not just mere disagreement with a political adversary,it's just full stop fiction of someone's fevered(and not very good I might add)imagination.

I'm not a lawyer, but if you are a well known public figure, people can say pretty much anything. It takes monumental efforts and years to win cases no matter how obviously slanderous the material is. During that period, you are just giving more publicity (and there for sales & money,) to the miscreants. Wiki the Carole Burnett trial to get an idea. Sometimes even when cases are won, the victory is Pyrrhic.

Yesterday was just a day-trip to nail down our canvassing and data-enty training. The big trip is into the Tampa area on Thurs for a week or more.

Bangladesh Muslim protesters torch Buddhist temples over Facebook photo

Hundreds of Muslims in Bangladesh burned at least four Buddhist temples and 15 homes of Buddhists on Sunday after complaining that a Buddhist man had insulted Islam, police and residents said.

Members of the Buddhist minority in the Cox’s Bazar area in the southeast of the country said unidentified people were bent on upsetting peaceful relations between Muslims and Buddhists.

Muslims took to the streets in the area late on Saturday to protest against what they said was a photograph posted on Facebook that insulted Islam.

The protesters said the picture had been posted by a Buddhist and they marched to Buddhist villages and set fire to temples and houses.

Stale bread (cubed), garlic, scallions, cheese (about 1lb - swiss and jack), basil, salt, pepper, a few chile peppers. Topped off with 8oz of heavy cream mixed with a little nutmeg. Oh, and a bunch of chopped up cooked bacon (10 slices). Not your low-fat vegetarian option. (This was a triple load of ingredients since it was an 8lb pumpkin instead of the suggested 3-4lb pumpkin.)

My brother does a vegetarian version without the bacon.

Somebody just posted or joined his facebook with an avatar of a quran according to BBC who deleted their article shortly after posting. It seems there are also allegations that the government encouraged the protests or at least didn't intervene quickly enough.

Picture showing interior and some of the stuffing.

Stuffed Pumpkin - interior

The skin is edible, but a bit bitter where it is very brown. The pumpkin flesh is about the consistency of cooked squash (big surprise there...) And you can see that the whole thing slumped a bit. Plus the cheese broke down a bit and cooked out the top some to make things a little messy.

So you get a firm squash with a rich gooey/cheesy center that you can spoon out. Lots of flavor from the basil, bacon, etc. and the squash is a bit peppery since the interior was rubbed with salt and pepper before the stuffing was added.

Lubbock radio host (and station owner) Wade Wilkes has gone survivalist/prepper with a series of tips for his "bunker team:"

Bunker Team Tip of the Day. Since the Obama Administration continues to be weak against Irans Nuclear program, now is the time to prepare for EMP(electro magnetic pulse). Iran will have the capability to use a low orbit nuke detonation that can knock out critical electrical devices of all kinds. The "Grid" could be widely affected causing serious large scale and long term blackouts. For protecting hand held radios/solar chargers/commo gear etc, buy a metal trash can with lid. This is a poor mans "Faraday Cage". It will defeat EMP and save your electronics. Lessons Learned NBC (nuclear biological chemical) School Ft Bliss Tx.

The Iranian EMP attack crops up once in a while in RW scare scenarios, but it is unlikely in the extreme. Iran might have this capability in a hundred years if unfortunate accidents do not continue to befall their program. For a real world example of EMP effects see Operation Starfish Prime. This involved a 1.44 megaton device detonated in space 250 miles above a point near Johnston in the Pacific.
This caused some relatively minor EMP damage in Hawaii, about 900 miles away.

.... knocking out about 300 streetlights, setting off numerous burglar alarms and damaging a telephone company microwave link. The EMP damage to the microwave link shut down telephone calls from Kauai to the other Hawaiian islands.

This is a long way from the kind of effects needed to seriously damage the US as a whole, yet the Starfish Prime device was 70 times as powerful as the Nagasaki bomb and far beyond anything Iran is likely to have in the foreseeable future.

I can't find the one I was thinking of specifically, it was the first of a new book series about the rapture (what else?) that starts off with Iran using a nuke missle launched from a containerized cargo ship off the coast to detonate an EMP pulse above D.C.

It was supposedly only a five kiloton device in the book yet it wiped out power from Maine to Atlanta and so damaged the grid that "there would be no power on most of the East coast for a decade or more!"

The Republican Party is truly deranged.

It has been common practice throughout history to call one's enemies lunatics or crazy people. This is most unfortunate since it devalued terms that are now becoming applicable in their literal sense. What else can we say about people who think Barack Obama is a communist or that an Iranian EMP attack is so imminent they must hide their computers in metal trash cans? The extraordinary revisionism and superstition being spread by the religious right is an especially egregious and destructive set of examples, and there are many, many more.

This really is becoming a mental health issue.

It all reminds me of a science fiction scenario in which some strange mental disease spreads through the population producing chaos and disaster. I can't remember where this was used but I remember it from the old days of SF. We are once again seeing science fiction overtaken by events. It is a lot less fun than our Martian robots though.

the annual federal budget by $20 billion

take that, welfare mooching 47% blue collar workers and children of families making less than 50k/yr

i think if he read this page at the debate, it would drive his poll numbers down even further

And for some reason (the Fed?) the evil inflation, promised before Bush left office even, has not appeared.

Remember when we were charged with being unpatriotic? By being against a bullshit war we were unpatriotic. These GOP peeps root, cheer and wish for inflation, the rating downgrade, etc.

That is what a person with a fucking memory is pissed about.

Oh, and attacks on POTUS's deceased Mother. Makes me cry.

There were a whole slew of un-patriotic triggers. The mere criticism of "the president during this time of war" was a frequent meme and one that was generally accepted by the American public. Even linking to Alex Jones was enough to get the boot in many places and made you an "Israel hating, anti-Semitic truther. Now of course Drudge freely links to Alex Jones garbage and has a permanent link to Inforwars.

My son made this and instead of Obdicut's recipe (which contains coriander and cumin, which he does not like) he made a syrup from soy sauce and honey.

So the embassy in Cairo went from being "the American embassy" for GOPers during the Bush years to being "the Obama embassy" for GOPers during the Obama years.

When Chris Stevens was killed in Benghazi it wasn't an "American ambassador" that was killed according to the GOPers. It was "Obama's ambassador."

So you know what's really weird? I never knew how old my step mother is. She's been in my life for 25 years. Always seemed like a parental figure, etc.

Well, today is her birthday and I found out she's 10 YEARS OLDER THAN ME.

My Dad, the dog.

My stepmother is 12 years older than I am. My sweetie pie is seven years older than she is. :p

I'll concede that BDS existed but ODS makes BDS look like chicken shit. The implication by "mainstream" right wing newssources that Obama hates America and the American people have been endless. I didn't like Bush. I admit but I never thought he hated the country like the rwnj's do with Obama. Of course, not only do they think he hates the country but they think he has a racial revenge fantasy. Obama loves this country more than the right wingers who call people who get government aid "parasites" and "takers" and talk about "real American" when deriding left of center regions do.

lol at his NLRB point. Romney's just mad because Obama's appointtes aren't total apologists for business/management at the expense of labor. Really as the grandson of a NLRB man, I laugh at Mitt so hard for trying that bullshit.

no, it's too complicated for Tweety. He only calls out the really simplistic crap, and even then only if it's the size of a sound-bite.

This is a Rachel Maddow/Chris Hayes/Melissa Harris-Perry kind of target.

I'm watching the debates for the sheer entertainment value. I doubt I'll be alone.

I'll be watching the liveblogs and reactions to the debates. That's always more fun than the debates themselves, IMO.

Bring on the booze and popcorn! Heh.

176 sauceruney  Sun, Sep 30, 2012 8:24:30pm

If we're going to see the unfiltered Romney, shouldn't the debate be held in front of hidden cameras?

177 elektramourns  Mon, Oct 1, 2012 5:23:56am

Christie should do something constructive for a change, like try to lose weight. He is morbidly obese and unhealthy.

178 E'Ville Mike  Mon, Oct 1, 2012 7:36:23am

Christie's off script here, isn't he? The usual play is to set the expectation for you guy's debate performance to LOW.

Or is this Mr Chunky's version of a little Jersey Trash Talk?
