Georgia Deputy Sheriff implicated in extremist plots. This is part of the reason that we’re seeing a full-court press on trying to root out “wokeness” from the military on Fox and other extremist media outlets. It’s just like when they got Napolitano to back down from including right wing militias and the like as potential domestic terrorists under Obama. They know it’s true and are hoping to radicalize the entire white portion of the military:

But Griggers’ involvement shines a light on the growing concern inside the intelligence community about the far-right radicalization of service members and law enforcement officers.

“They have valuable skills that extremists want,” said Seth Jones, senior vice president at the non-partisan think tank the Center for Strategic and International Studies. “Most of them have experiences with small unit tactics, operational security.”

Rooting out extremism within the military is one of U.S. Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin’s expressed priorities. In his confirmation hearing before the Senate Armed Services Committee in January, the Georgia native and retired four-star general said he was “deeply alarmed … by the rise of white supremacists and extremist ideology in the military.”

So the UK has had a quintupling of coronavirus cases over the past month, apparently thanks to the Delta variant, and the number of deaths (lagging indicator) over the same period has doubled. In Israel, even though the number of cases remain very low, there has been a similar growth of new cases, but, as yet, no increase in deaths. Let’s hold our breaths and hope for the best here.

Sorry, but I expect the US to follow with another surge in cases soon. The CDC jumped the gun. I don’t know why, but I strongly suspect right wing pressure tactics influenced them too much. We’re going to regret spiking the football.

If you haven’t read it yet, try Michael Lewis’s The Premonition. It’s not particularly complimentary of the CDC. They became gun-shy in the 1970’s as a result of the swine flu “fiasco”, and, since then, appear to be very hesitant to take dramatic steps to curb possible disease outbreaks, especially given that the CDC director has been a political position for decades now.

Jumped the gun how? For months now in this country, if you’ve wanted a vaccine, you could get a vaccine. CDC isn’t putting the entire country on hold because there are millions of morons here. We’re reopening because lots of us are ready, are vaccinated, and are rightly tired of having to mask up every single time we walk out the door.

How often do you have to buy new fish to restock the pond?

so far not at all

9/15/20 we put in the first batch as sort of canary fish
3 large pleco (have never seen them since - they hide well)
3 gold comets
1 huge gold comet

10/11/20
8 shubunkins
8 blue gouramis
2 medium comets

that’s all we put in
then the comets started reproducing
we probably have 50-60 fish right now

there are also probably 500 or so tadpoles of various sizes/maturities
and dozens of tiny frogs hopping all around the deck and in the grass

Adults are vaccinated. Kids who are vulnerable to Delta and Delta+ are not. It shouldn’t matter that people are tired of wearing masks and isolating when young people’s lives are at stake. I’m sure you just overlooked this factor. I did once myself.

The virus is still mutating, and it’s apparently getting better at infecting humans. So far the vaccines seem to be effective against known variants, but this is by no means guaranteed as the mutations continue.

I hope I’m proven wrong, but I believe the CDC gave the green light to open everything up way too soon, and we’re going to regret it.

Thing is, COVID-19 was terrible, but far from as bad as things are likely to get in the future. Scientists have been warning about the danger of viral pandemics for years. If COVID-19 was a test for humans to see how we’d deal with a REAL viral emergency, we failed.

Over on the RV front. Hit the two largest salvage yard this morning looking for battery trays. Anything I found was either to small or would require extensive modification to work. So, going with plan B. Galvanized steel strap to keep the batteries in place. Not as convenient as a tray, but the whole idea is to keep them from shifting if I have to do a sudden maneuver

And speaking of the latest fucking insanity from Q…

According to a report from Newsweek, the conspiracy theorists who make up the QAnon movement believe law enforcement authorities in Minnesota substituted in an imposter for former police officer Derek Chauvin when he was sentenced to over 22 years in prison for the murder of George Floyd.

Tracking responses on Telegram — a popular forum for the QAnon crowd — Newsweek’s Jason Lemon reports film clips of Chauvin at his sentencing — where he appeared heavier than he looked at his trial — set off a spate of accusations that something may have already happened to the former cop.

As Lemon wrote, “Believers of the QAnon conspiracy theory expressed skepticism that former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin, who murdered George Floyd, was actually the ‘same guy’ after his sentencing hearing on Friday,” before adding, “After Chauvin’s sentencing hearing on Friday, supporters of QAnon posted to a Telegram channel for believers, expressing their skepticism that the former police officer was actually the person that had appeared in court.”

Namaqualand is dry for most of the year, an arid almost desert landscape which extends along South Africa’s western coast for 600 miles. Yet when the rains are good, something like a miracle happens. Water, the driving force of all nature, soaks in to the parched earth. An uncountable host of flowers materialize as if from nowhere, creating an extraordinary eruption of color, transforming the countryside and dazzling the eye.

It’s an old Navy ship, served in WWII, sunk as target practice in the 1960s after it was decommissioned.

If covid19 were a zombie apocalypse and the disease caused people to become the undead, the GOP would have opened up the country to be overrun.

As it is, they did. 500,000+ dead under Trump, and more than 600,000+ despite all the medical evidence showing how masking and vaccines can stop spread.

Trumpists are still walking dead - refusing to mask or social distance or get vaccinated (with the vaccines they claim Trump accelerated to production like no one else could). And those walking dead continue to be a threat to everyone else.

Looking at the picture and the list of target ships sunk in the 60’s, it’s either the USS Guardfish sunk off Connecticut in 1961 or USS Spikefish sunk off Long Island in 1964 then. No way to know for sure till they say but it’s a sub in the picture and those 2 are the only ones on the list that fit the criteria.
