Gas prices are falling… here’s why it’s bad news for Biden.
Gas prices are falling because of lessening demand as high prices force people to reconsider driving. But the costs still get borne by folks because it’s priced into everything else - food, deliveries, etc., that we all rely on.

I thought it had to do with the fact that people finally caught on that oil companies weren’t matching their prices to the price of oil.

NJ Route 17 through Bergen County has a price spread of more than $1 for a gallon of gas. At low end, you’re looking at $3.99, while the high is $5.19 all within a few miles of each other. Stations across from each other could have significantly different prices, because of proximity to exits.

Truth be told, they don’t care how much damage they do to the administrative state, because, as we’ve seen from their buddies in the Supreme Court, their objective is to dismantle the whole goddamn thing. They don’t want any government regulation of anything; except, of course, for immoral activities such as having sex for fun and not for procreation. That, they’ll gladly set up an entire government branch specifically to watch out for.

Steven Lopez — the lesser known 6th defendant in the infamous 1989 “Central Park Five” case — is expected to be exonerated Monday.Lopez was initially among the group of teenagers of color who were wrongfully accused of raping a white woman in Central Park. While his five innocent co-defendants were ultimately convicted based on false confessions elicited by police, Lopez accepted a last-minute plea deal on an unrelated robbery in the park to avoid the more serious charge.
The six teenagers were sentenced to a collective 45 years in prison, according to the New York Times.
The “Central Park Five” — Kevin Richardson, Raymond Santana, Antron McCray, Yusef Salaam, and Korey Wise — were exonerated in 2002 after the real rapist, Matias Reyes, was identified and confessed.

Loyalty to an asshole to the point of throwing away your successful show seems pretty stupid to me.
Now, thanks to new reporting from Puck, there is additional information about what fueled the split behind the scenes. “Five separate sources” confirmed to Puck that the inciting conflict was related to a disagreement the pair had over the conduct of their longtime manager, Victor Lopez, who had been asked by Showtime to “no longer attend tapings or appear in meetings.” Two of Puck’s sources indicated that “several formal complaints had been made.” Lopez was accused of “asshole behavior, including bullying, screaming and generally making people on the show feel bad,” per the report, which claims Desus agreed with the Showtime decision but Mero “felt loyal” to Lopez, whom he had worked with for years.

Video showed the man holding a gun before the individual targeted by the group used a knife to stab him, Deenihan told reporters during a press conference.
The man suffered wounds to his chest and later was pronounced dead at a hospital.

The Bears are owned by.. the McCaskey family that’s worth $1.7 billion.
The team and the league can afford to build the stadium. The city has better uses of the money than to pay for a stadium that’s used by the football team for all of 8 regular season games. That’s 8 days. If you get use out of the stadium for other events for about 80-100 days for the year, you’re doing well.
I’m opposed on municipalities paying for these stadiums across the nation. It’s a waste of money. There’s zero threat that the Bears move.

The Pitchforks Are Coming… For Us Plutocrats
By NICK HANAUER July/August 2014
And so I have a message for my fellow filthy rich, for all of us who live in our gated bubble worlds: Wake up, people. It won’t last.
If we don’t do something to fix the glaring inequities in this economy, the pitchforks are going to come for us. No society can sustain this kind of rising inequality. In fact, there is no example in human history where wealth accumulated like this and the pitchforks didn’t eventually come out. You show me a highly unequal society, and I will show you a police state. Or an uprising. There are no counterexamples. None. It’s not if, it’s when.

That is true — but the criticism is that this is not the time to focus on that issue for the 2022 election; for the 2024 election, yes, but in order to be able to have the opportunity to work on climate change we need to retain our majority in the House and get a real majority in the Senate. With the few months we have, the focus must be on the shorter term issues that have a simpler solution or that can attract public attention
re: #181 sagehen
300 days is a lot more than “a typical summer”.

There has to be enough liquid for two reasons. One is to keep things from burning and the other is it makes it easier for the pressure to build inside. Most 100-degree days in a year
Below are the ranks and stats of the most 100-degree days in a year on record in Austin, as recorded at Camp Mabry:
1st: 90 days - 2011 : *ALL-TIME RECORD*
2nd: 69 days - 1925
3rd: 68 days - 2009
4th: 66 days - 1923

8th: 42 days - 2017, 2013, 2000
11th: 40 days - 2001, 1963
For reference, last year we had 5. Just five! Definitely a mixed bag. This year, based on the start, will be an outlier like 2011.

And Ray Liotta dying in his sleep at a movie location in the Dominican Republic a month or two ago…damn, getting old sucks.
Aaaaannnd I just saw about David Warner passing too.
Godspeed, Chancellor Gorkon (but fuck you, Gul Madred)…
(and, yes, I know he was also in Star Trek V as St. John Talbot prior to playing Gorkon in ST VI and Madred in ST:TNG’s “Chain of Command” [IMO, one of the best TNG episodes, not only for Picard’s “THERE ARE FOUR LIGHTS!”, but also because of Ronny Cox as Captain Jellico butting heads with Riker during Picard’s absence from the ship], but the less that is said about ST V, the better ;-P)
I mean, he doesn’t “suggest” it. He says it. And it’s important to understand this isn’t some gaff.

The gay son of Rep. Glenn Thompson, R-Pa., confirmed to NBC News on Monday that he “married the love of [his] life” on Friday and that his “father was there.” NBC News is not publishing the names of the grooms, neither of whom is a public figure.
That was three days after Rep. Thompson voted against the bill to protect same-sex marriage.
Mark Short just now on Erin Burnett’s show on CNN - watched a clip of Matt Gaetz saying Pence will never be president.
“I don’t know what Pence will do, but I don’t believe Gaetz will even be voting in 2024 because he’ll be in prison for child sex trafficking. In fact, I don’t understand why Florida lets him give speeches to groups of young people like that.”
So Chicago is considering spending $2B with a B dollars to put a dome on Soldier Field to keep the Bears from moving to Arlington Park in the burbs. I’m sorry but wtf. I’m legit pissed off about this. Like they can’t find a better use for that $ than to placate a shitty team. Come on.

ANOTHER INSTANT POT FAIL!!!!
I got the “Burn Notice!!!!” again before the pot reached pressure. What am I doing wrong? Not enough liquid?
Anyone here who uses Instant Pot, what do you make in it?
Hmm. I use it for soups and stews mostly. Pot roast is good. I’m planning on trying chicken in rice with condensed cream of mushroom & cream of celery soups using milk for the liquid though in other dishes I have found that rice is very easy to burn in it. Otherwise, I don’t have any trouble. What are you trying to make?
re: #161 jaunte
That guy apparently hasn’t read anything at all about how all those German Christians wound up loyal party members.
In my experience (your mileage may vary), Christians have to insist that Hitler was an atheist (despite his writings to the contrary). To admit he was a Christian leaves uncomfortable questions.

re: #118 Dr Lizardo
This is something I didn’t know. Here in Ostrava, we have a place that sells items that ordinarily would’ve ended up in the trash. It’s called the ReUse Center. I’ve picked up a couple of things from there myself. What I didn’t know is that it’s one of only two in Europe, with the other being in Vienna.
Uh, check out Emmaus in France, or multiple other initiatives. This is no way “one of only two”.
re: #118 Dr Lizardo
Our ReUse Center is planning on expanding what they offer to included large electrical appliances, such as washing machines and refrigerators.
Like this : label-emmaus.co
It’s been done here for decades.

Are you following a recipe or doing a “seat of the pants” meal? The only time I have got that message is when I switched from saute to pressure cook and didn’t have enough liquid in the pot. The device also is picky about being “de-glazed” after a saute operation basically for the same reason, not enough liquid and it gets to hot, to fast. Be patient. It’s like learning to cook with cast iron. Until you learn each pot or skillets “personality”, it WILL throw you a curve.

And you have leverage in a totalitarian government. Sure.
Uh, which totalitarian government would that be? I don’t think Biden is that bad.

I have tried two recipes so far: beef stew and meatball sauce. I use the same recipes that I have used for my old Hawkins pressure cooker so maybe IP requires more liquid than Hawkins.
Next step: Find a recipe specifically for the IP and make that.
I’m still fuming about the fact that they didn’t let al-Qaeda cross examine the Bush Administration during the 9/11 hearings.

Hilarious thread.
Tom Cotton to Hugh Hewitt on the Jan. 6 Committee:
“I think what you’ve seen over the last few weeks is why Anglo-American jurisprudence going back centuries has found that adversarial inquiry, cross-examination is the best way to get at the truth.”

They think that they can cause anarchy and that they’ll be the ones to seize power then. Unfortunately for them the billionaire’s private armies in that situation will make serfs out of them as well and they’ll live as miserably as those they thought they’d enslave.

Though if you step back you see that the city/regional government is fine with the plans since the contract money will obviously go to someone who you can bet is a large political donor. It’s money collected from the poor and middle class that is mainly going to go in the pockets of the fat cats since the contract is going to have a nice piece of profit worked into it.
Enough with the fucking Founders. Most would have been confounded by not having to drag ass to a tall wooden box in the backyard to take a shit. And then they’d have expected an enslaved human to clean up after them. It’s 2022. We can aspire to better. https://t.co/4cO7YMM6XA

So I got the e-mail from the refrigerator place saying what’s my delivery window… and it says “installation has not been purchased…”
Does that mean if I’d gotten one with an ice maker or something and it has to be connected to plumbing? Surely “installation” doesn’t just mean slotting it into the appropriate space in the kitchen and all I have to do it plug it in?
Anybody know?
