Charles, on my Android mobile phone I have a real problem keeping myself signed in lately. Something seems to happen to the cookie when I’m in another app and then return to the browser and it reloads automatically (which I think happens due to memory allocation specifics). Sometimes I have to sign in several times almost in a row.

She got convicted on Obstruction.

So not guilty of seditious conspiracy, specifically? I wonder why. I don’t know what the elements are of that crime, nor their defenses. So she got convicted on a different charge, did any of the others get off fully scot-free?

re: #6 Dangerman

ssm was fun.
private religion doesnt have to bend, commerce does - the public square and taxes mostly

two people (only two) are in deep and abiding love
exactly the same as yours
age irrelevant

they want a civil marriage ceremony.

there will be no sex at all. no, no one’s damaged. they just find the whole thing icky. and as a civil ceremony no need for a religious consummation.

there will never be children. they don’t want any - neither naturally nor adopted. (they might have pets)

they’ll sleep in separate beds in separate rooms from day one.
they are both so shy they don’t even do pda’s

forget the argument about sham marriages - this is a real, loving one, just like yours. eternal and forever.

heteros can do this without question or prior approval.
they automatically get every federal/state benefit.
that includes treatment in the marketplace, healthcare, jobs, taxes, inheritance, etc.

two same sex partners cannot because somehow it would destroy the institution of marriage.

explain how.

Seditious conspiracy - up to 20 years (no idea what the sentencing guideline looks like for this… I mean, Jesus, when’s the last time they even charged it???)
Obstruction - Up to 5 years, up to 8 years with a domestic terrorism enhancement
Guessing aiding and abetting is going to be in a lower time frame. Overall, they’re not going to jail for the rest of their lives, but they will have some time to think on what they’ve done.

They’ll need very close supervision the whole time, which I don’t think we can count on. I’d prefer that the judge didn’t try rehabilitation that puts them in contact with the people they want to disenfranchise, and instead went with harsh punishment.

A Pennsylvania elected official allegedly slapped a fellow township commissioner in the face during an event for children.

John Lorenzo, a Rostraver Township commissioner, was cited with two counts of harassment or physical contact, disorderly conduct and an additional harassment charge in connection with a trick-or-treat event on Halloween, reported the Tribune-Review.

“The defendant did create such an inconvenience to the public that he was escorted out of the area by (the) Rostraver Police Department,” the citation reads.

The 43-year-old Lorenzo, who switched his party affiliation from Democrat to Republican after his 2019 election, is enrolled in the state’s probationary Accelerated Rehabilitative Disposition Program after he was prosecuted earlier this year for creating fake social media accounts and using “burner” phones to harass political opponents and other rivals.

re: #55 PhillyPretzel

Private Twitter data pertaining to 5 million users was reshared in a hacker forum last Thursday after first being leaked in July.

Whereas July’s leak came with a price tag of $30,000, Thursday’s dump was provided for free.

Back in December 2021, a Twitter API bug was discovered as part of the forum’s bug bounty program, which let people retrieve specific Twitter IDs by submitting an associated phone number or email address. This allowed threat actors to build user records on millions of accounts using both public and private information.

Enough data was collected by July for a threat actor to start selling the private info of 5.4 million users for $30,000 in an online forum. This data included phone numbers and email addresses, alongside public information like names, Twitter IDs, locations, login names, and verified status.

In addition, a second data breach affecting 1.4 million suspended users took place, taking the total of affected profiles up to almost 7 million.

The data batch affecting 5.4 million users was freely reshared on a hacking forum on November 24th. According to Pompompurin, this is indeed the same data that was for sale for thousands of dollars in July and August.

“These records contain either a private email address or phone number, and public scraped data, including the account’s Twitter ID, name, screen name, verified status, location, URL, description, follower count, account creation date, friends count, favorites count, statuses count, and profile image URLs,” wrote BleepingComputer.

So Alan Keyes who had NO ties to Illinois and did not even participate in the Illinois GOP primary was selected by the Illinois GOP to run against Obama and then rented an apartment here. The Constitution does not define what it means to be an inhabitant of the state.

Walker owns property in Georgia, was born and raised there and was educated there. If he actually does legitimately win the election(fingers crossed that he goes down to a convincing defeat), then he will serve and the Democrats are not likely to challenge that victory. Nor should they.

Crush White Nationalism  Nov 29, 2022 • 4:37:28pm
I was an intern at SpaceX years ago, back it when it was a much smaller company — after Elon got hair plugs, but before his cult of personality was in full swing. I have some insight to offer here.

Back when I was at SpaceX, Elon was basically a child king. He was an important figurehead who provided the company with the money, power, and PR, but he didn’t have the knowledge or (frankly) maturity to handle day-to-day decision making and everyone knew that. He was surrounded by people whose job was, essentially, to manipulate him into making good decisions.

Managing Elon was a huge part of the company culture. Even I, as a lowly intern, would hear people talking about it openly in meetings. People knew how to present ideas in a way that would resonate with him, they knew how to creatively reinterpret (or ignore) his many insane demands, and they even knew how to “stage manage” parts of the physical office space so that it would appeal to Elon.

The funniest example of “stage management” I can remember is this dude on the IT security team. He had a script running in a terminal on one of his monitors that would output random garbage, Matrix-style, so that it always looked like he was doing Important Computer Things to anyone who walked by his desk. Second funniest was all the people I saw playing WoW at their desks after ~5pm, who did it in the office just to give the appearance that they were working late.

People were willing to do that at SpaceX because Elon was giving them the money (and hype) to get into outer space, a mission people cared deeply about. The company also grew with and around Elon. There were layers of management between individual employees and Elon, and those managers were experienced managers of Elon. Again, I cannot stress enough how much of the company culture was oriented around managing this one guy.

Twitter has neither of those things going for it. There is no company culture or internal structure around the problem of managing Elon Musk, and I think for the first time we’re seeing what happens when people actually take that man seriously and at face value. Worse, they’re doing this little experiment after this man has had decades of success at companies that dedicate significant resources to protecting themselves from him, and he’s too narcissistic to realize it.

The estranged wife of far-right militia leader Stewart Rhodes is over the moon after a jury returned a verdict convicting him of seditious conspiracy on Tuesday, she told The Daily Beast. “I am beyond happy,” said Tasha Adams, who is currently finalizing a long-sought divorce with Rhodes. “He has absolutely never had to face a consequence in his entire life. This will be the very first time. He’s spent his life making others pay—this was past due for him.”

MOUNT PLEASANT, S.C., Nov. 29, 2022 /PRNewswire/ — The Congressional Medal of Honor Society regretfully announces that Hiroshi “Hershey” Miyamura, the second-to-last living Korean War Medal of Honor recipient, passed away Nov. 29, 2022, in Phoenix, Arizona, at the age of 97.

President Dwight D. Eisenhower presented Miyamura with the Medal of Honor on White House grounds in Washington, D.C. on Oct. 27, 1953, for his actions near Taejon-Ni, Korea, during the Korean War.

On April 24, 1951, then-Cpl. Miyamura was a machine-gun squad leader with Company H occupying a defensive position when the enemy threatened to overrun the position. Aware of the imminent danger to his men, he engaged in close hand-to-hand combat, killing approximately 10 of the enemy before returning to administer first aid to the wounded and directed their evacuation.

When another assault hit the line, he manned his machine gun until his ammunition was expended and ordered the squad to withdraw while he stayed behind bayoneting his way through infiltrated enemy soldiers to a second gun emplacement and assisted in its operation. He ordered his men to fall back while covering their movement and killed more than 50 of the enemy before his ammunition was depleted and he was severely wounded but was still seen continuing to fight an overwhelming number of enemy soldiers before being captured by the enemy.

News that Miyamura was to be awarded the Medal of Honor was kept quiet until his release from a prisoner of war camp on Aug. 23, 1953.

NEWS: John Thune, the No. 2 Senate GOP leader, sayse in interview Senate Repubs want to leverage the next US debt limit increase to force federal spending cuts and changes to Social Security and other entitlement programs.

I am beyond infuriated at the failure of the Democrats to run ads nationwide that the Republicans were planning on eviscerating Social Security and Medicare; every day voters should have been seeing clips with these officials talking about attacking these programs. It might have been enough to defeat some of the candidates in both the House and Senate (I’m looking at you Ron Johnson).

Interesting. This chart omits Social Security and Medicare, which are funded through other taxes. Unfortunately, for Medicare, there really needs to be some substantial revision to funding and structure to support those benefits long term into the future.

One American hero came out of that massacre:

Silas Stillman Soule (/ˈsoʊl/ [sole])[1] (July 26, 1838 - April 23, 1865) was an American abolitionist, Kansas Territory Jayhawker, whose family aligned themselves with John Brown and Walt Whitman. Later, during the American Civil War, he joined the Colorado volunteers, rising to the rank of captain in the Union Army. Silas Soule was in command of Company D, 1st Colorado Cavalry, which was present at Sand Creek on November 29, 1864, when he refused an order to join the Sand Creek massacre. During the subsequent inquiry, Soule testified against the massacre’s commanding officer, John Chivington, and soon after, he was murdered in Denver.

Fresh off an underwhelming midterm showing, the GOP is taking a step back to assess what went wrong in 2022 and how they can fix it in time for 2024. But based on the extremist figures they’ve brought on to lead the postmortem, it seems the party is already missing the message voters sent in November.

Two, three, four elections in a row. They seem to be letting the message whiz by over their heads.

They didn’t get defeated by a 90% margin; almost 50% of the voting public is in favor of what they are; they know that a devoted effort to suppress votes can lead them to victory and that’s the route they are taking. I don’t know all of the bill, but one thing it does is explicitly include that churches are not going to be forced to perform ceremonies. It also covers interracial marriage. They may have built enough stuff in that they figure that the Supreme Court won’t have much of a chance. And, if the court takes it down, then it will end up like abortion at election time.

With Stewart Rhodes’ conviction earlier today, here’s a story the BBC did with Rhodes’ family—who escaped.

The son of militia leader Stewart Rhodes spent years plotting to help his family escape from his father’s control. Now that the elder Rhodes faces decades in prison, the rest of the family is rebuilding their lives.

The time had come. It was a dreary February day in 2018. Dakota had it all planned out.

His mother and five younger siblings were in the truck - some of them crouched out of sight on the floor.

They’d bundled into it as much as they could and made up an excuse - ostensibly they were heading to the trash dump just off the main highway, slick with black ice and crusted snow.

But just as they started to pull away, Dakota’s father burst out the door of their remote cabin in the mountains of northwest Montana.

Dakota and his mother Tasha stiffened. The leader of the Oath Keepers militia had dominated their lives until that moment. Tasha and Stewart had been married for nearly 25 years, and she was familiar with his manic periods. He’d been up all night on a tear - working out, listening to music, practising Filipino stick fighting, pacing the floor.

It was a pattern of manic activity, Dakota said, that was familiar throughout years of emotional abuse and heightened paranoia.

Would he now stop them from fleeing? Had he noticed his favourite gun was missing? Would he question why John-Boy, the family dog, was along for the ride to the dump? Dakota gripped the wheel while Tasha looked down at her daughters, hidden under the windows, their eyes opened wide.

“Hey,” Rhodes growled. “Pick up some steak on your way back.”

Dakota and Tasha murmured assent, and drove off towards the highway without a backwards glance.

Dakota also recalled some dark memories. He remembered when he was around four years old waking his father up from a nap, only to have Rhodes jump up and pull out a folding knife.

“He would jokingly play it off as some kind of ultra manly animalistic caveman brain being activated before he was fully awake,” Dakota said. “I’ve never heard of anything like that before or since.”

Psychopath. Finally ended up in prison for a long long time.
