re: #84 Eclectic Cyborg

I still have a strong suspicion Trump will miraculously come up with the money just before the deadline.

I mean think about it: If you had the means, you could really turn the screws on him over the weekend and get all kinds of concessions befor you pull the trigger and give him what he wants.

That said, I do hope that doesn’t happen and the fucker has to admit he’s broke.

as electoral-vote.com wrote this am:

Further, it would be nearly impossible for Trump to hide where the money came from in this scenario.

The payment from Trump to the New York State escrow account couldn’t be on a credit card. Trump’s credit limit is probably a tad less than half a billion. It would have to be a wire transfer, in which case the judge could easily discover which bank held the $500 million temporarily. If the judge suspected something illegal, he could issue a subpoena for a list of transactions on that account. The information about where the money came from could also leak.Leaks happen. There is much reason to think that some number of persuadable voters would not be happy about a candidate who is clearly in hock to a foreign leader or a U.S. tycoon.

A passing of note: M. Emmet Walsh has died at the age of 88.

M. Emmet Walsh, a character actor whose career spanned six decades, died on Tuesday of cardiac arrest, ET can confirm. He was 88.

According to his long-time manager, Sandy Joseph, Walsh died at Kerbs Memorial Hospital in St. Albans, Vermont.

From the New Republic link downstairs:

A better option, Bloomberg’s Erik Larson suggests, is a quick sale of Trump’s share in two office buildings that are majority-owned by Vornado Realty Trust. These are 555 California Ave. in San Francisco and 1290 Sixth Ave. in New York. According to Larson, these could fetch him a quick $625 million. But Vornado would pay as little as possible, not only because this would be a fire sale, but also because if it paid even a whisker above market price it might stand accused of making an undeclared campaign contribution.

Is this not likely then?

Wouldn’t Trump rather lose money in a fire sale, then have NY padlock his buildings in NY?

Trump probably feels the former is more of a “loser move” than the latter since he can continue to try to pin the blame for the latter on him being unfairly persecuted by those jealous of his business acumen and political success.

Make no mistake: none of the Trumps in Trump Org are changing their lives on the basis of these judgements.

The judgements are a public spectacle for Trump, but the rest of the family and even Trump himself are continuing to lead a life of luxury, free the from the concerns normal people have.

From the last thread:

re: #59 sizzzzlerz

I doubt, very much, ballers who leave school to try and make it in the pros, would ever return to finish their degree. Whether successful or not. And I also don’t think the schools would want them to. If successful, they’ll have more money than they’ll ever need and, if they couldn’t make the pros, what will a degree in general education or sports science do for them.

Not all of them get general education degrees or sport science degrees. But, in any case, white collar jobs generally require degrees. Getting mine after trying once, then going into the navy has made a difference.

Family update:

Sorry to be away from my friends so much, but working to take care of Dad and get things in order. Still lurk around here and try to keep up with what is going on.

Needed information to do Dad’s taxes and found two needles in a haystack today going through stacks of his mail. Can get the rest with no trouble. To anyone out there with an elderly parent or parents, have the difficult conversation about durable power of attorney and health care power of attorney. Dad did not pay his property taxes last year and was about to let his homeowner insurance lapse. My brother and I have set up a mailing account at the local UPS store so we can get all of his bills and set things up for automatic payment.

Wishing all of you the best!

Sure, it happens. There are a lot of very smart athletes who do make it to the pros and they do go on to have successful lives once they retire. But there are thousands of players who believe they have the skills and just need a couple years to show them off. Those dreams are mostly short-lived and they’re left with nothing to fall back on.

So wouldn’t being able to go back to school to finish help?

Wonkette just has a way with words that make me do the James Brown I FEEL GOOD Thing!

These ‘James Comer Staples Own Donger To Wall’ Hearings Are Great, Let’s Do One Every Day!

As predicted, today’s James Comer House Oversight hearing on Biiiiiden Corruption — you gotta say it like you’re from Kentucky and you’re blowing saliva into the chipmunk pouches in your cheeks — was a real exercise in Comer stapling his dick to the wall. It is his fetish, we do not judge.

Like we explained this morning, Hunter Biden told the committee to fuck off, since he testified for a million hours behind closed doors already. His business partner Devon Archer decided against attending. That left TONNNNNY BOBULINSKI!!!!!! — you have to say it like you’re on Fox News and you have a surprise boner and a piano just fell on your head — to testify in person, and new Comer star witness Jason Galanis to testify from prison, where he lives, due to the fraud convictions.

Oh, and on the Democratic side, it left Lev Parnas — you can say that one like a normal human— the former Rudy Giuliani associate, to explain to the committee how Comer’s entire investigation, and all the Biden conspiracy theories that underpin it, are a long-running Russian intelligence op.

We like how he really laid out how Rudy would knowingly give him Russian disinfo to give to John Solomon who would barf it on Sean Hannity live on air. Pretty cool.

She was on private property. Wasn’t breaking any laws. DUI laws only apply to public roads.

Someone I knew in high school who was one or two grades below me drove drunk right out of high school on private property and rolled the truck he was driving, killing one of the passengers, a dude who was one or two grades ahead of me. Driver went to prison for a few years and 20 years later still has to take weekly drug tests.

Ok, this is weird. Why not just walk from the guest house to the main house?

Luggage, buggage, shoes not made for walking…

It’s Texas. The guest house was probably “right next door”, i.e. half a mile away….

Rich people in Texas aren’t big on walking.

She wasn’t attempting to take the car off the private driveway and onto public roads when she took the plunge?

No, she was on her 500+ acre property. Dropped people off at the guest house and was going back to the main house.

Tonight’s dinner is a soup I haven’t had in years

Progresso Chickarina—there’s just something about chicken soup with meatballs in it…

Huge poorly lit property. Moonless/cloudy night. I probably wouldn’t want to walk either. She should have asked one of the dozen or so workers employed there to drive her.

The law forcing prices insulin down also helped. Pharmaceuticals know that if they don’t back off some, laws are coming.

What really pisses me off is that Kaiser Permanente CAN bargain with drug companies to get lower prices but people dependent on Medicare Part D DON’T have that advantage thanks to Dumbya’s deal with PhRMA BUT The VA CAN bargain with the drug companies.

This is true! It is generally a bad idea to mess with deer, particularly bucks during mating season.

Getting gored is one issue.

Probably worse is when a deer rears up on its hind legs and curb-stomps the provoking human.

And finally is when someone hits deer with their car and the deer goes over the hood and through the windshield at highspeed.

Lots of online videos. And articles on folks who didn’t believe a 200lb critter with sharp hooves and pointy antlers could possibly do anything to them.

Underestimate nature at your own peril. A buck in mating season can be extremely dangerous.

It was a medal from Germany.

2024: California Style Gemista and Cornbread

Last night’s dinner California style, because I used a bit of that Pepper Plant sauce from Gilroy and bbq sauce in peppers and tomatoes and serve homemade cornbread instead of pita
My son made the Greek style potatoes which were A+, approaching the skill level of old Greek ladies I knew growing up

I think when he finally does lose his shit completely they should make it a pay per view event and use that money to pay his debt to NY.
