Now that I no longer have a Mac Pro (that works) I need an external DVD drive. Preferably Blu-ray compatible. Does anyone have a recommendation? There are at least 50 quadrillion different options out there, starting at $20 and going up to $200. The Apple SuperDrive is still available but it’s absurdly expensive and somewhat outdated.

All I need is a reliable drive with USB-C.

Charles when my last Apple Super Drive died I got this one from Amazon.

I know it’s from Amazon but it’s a lot cheaper than Apple’s and it works so far for my MacBook Air!

Grew up loving the Soul and Motown groups.
Then discovered the Animals and Kinks and Yardbirds along with the huge acts.
Dave Clark 5 and Paul Revere and the Raiders got squat.
Then Rod Stewart and Ronnie Wood in The Faces just tore it.
Might have posted this before, maybe not.
But, it’s killer.
I still say they were the best band I ever saw live.
And I saw a lot.

Looks good, but no Blu-ray. I only have a few Blu-ray discs so I may go for that or something like it, unless I find a decent Blu-ray drive for not much cash.

Gov. Greg Abbott and state officials faced a setback Friday in Texas’ bid to open child abuse investigations into parents who provide gender-affirming care to children.

The Austin-based Third Court of Appeals upheld temporary injunctions in two related cases that stopped the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services from investigating allegations of child abuse for families of transgender children who aid in accessing puberty blockers and hormone therapy.

I will note, though, that there are some explicit Christian Nationalist channels on YouTube that are getting some attention.

They have picked up the usual crowd (e.g., the Glenn Beck marks) and merged said crowd with the old fashioned fundamentalists (the anti-evolution groups) and also the neo-fascists.

They tend to be mostly middle age white males who brag about keeping their wife pregnant.

Trump blew $200 on fast food after attending NYPD officer’s funeral

According to the New York Post, “While headed to his private jet ‘en route back to Florida, Trump and his campaign staff traveled westbound on Merrick Road from the funeral home’s South Chapel location to the popular All American Drive-In, Trump’s senior adviser, Daniel Scavino Jr., posted on Facebook.”

All American manager Richard Vultaggio revealed to reporters that Trump purchased 18 “double double” cheeseburgers, 10 hot dogs, two quarter-pounder hamburgers with cheese, 20 orders of French fries, and 10 orders of onion rings, along with numerous servings of ketchup and mustard.

And he didn’t hook up with…THE FAT BOYS!

He sure as hell didn’t buy it for anyone else. He would throw one away and demand another if a pickle was out of place or if some of the sauce seeped out of the burger and touched the box.

Buy 10 of them and hopefully 1 or 2 of them will meet his standards.

New: Trump-appointed Judge Matthew Kacsmaryk, the Texas judge in the abortion pill case, tonight blocked new banking regulations that would overhaul how lenders extend loans and other services to low- and moderate-income Americans.

Texas federal judge blocks updated fair lending rules

“…Conceived to prevent red lining - a discriminatory practice where banks refuse or offer only limited lending to certain areas or populations, primarily minorities - CRA regulations gauge how well banks service areas where they operate.
The new rules broadened the geographies in which lenders were be required to extend loans and other services to low-income Americans, a change regulators said was needed to reflect the rise of online banking and the decline of bank branches.”

A Texas federal judge on Thursday accused the major banking industry groups and U.S. Chamber of Commerce of venue shopping in their lawsuit against the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, a major win for the federal regulator.

The bureau had argued the only reason banks filed their lawsuit in Texas was to increase their chance of a favorable ruling. Judge Mark Pittman ruled that the lawsuit should be transferred to Washington, where the banking lobby has armies of lawyers able to handle this case.

Choctaw Bingo

Strap them kids in, give ‘em a lil bit of vodka
In a cherry Coke, we’re goin to Oklahoma
To the family reunion for the first time in years
It’s up at uncle Slaton’s ‘cause he’s getting on in years
You know he no longer travels but he’s still pretty spry
He’s not much on talk and he’s just too mean to die
And they’ll be comin’ down from Kansas and West Arkansas
It’ll be one great big old party like you’ve never saw

jaunte  Mar 29, 2024 • 7:41:52pm

Bob and Mae come up from
Some little town way down by
Lake Texoma, where he coaches football
They were two-A champions for two years running
But he says they won’t be this year
No, they won’t be this year
And he stopped off in Tushka at the pop knife and gun place
Bought a SKS rifle and a couple full cases of that steel core ammo
With the Berdan primers from some East bloc nation
That no longer needs ‘em
And a Desert Eagle, that’s one great big old pistol
I mean, fifty caliber made by bad-ass Hebrews
And some surplus tracers for that old BAR
Of Slaton’s as soon as it gets dark, we’re gonna have us a time
We’re gonna have us a time

Country Western music is fantastic. Pop Country music can go fuck itself.

Here’s Hank III singing about it:
(the whole Straight to Hell album is a must listen)

Well I think I’d rather eat the barrel
Of a double-barrel loaded shotgun
Than to hear that shit they call pop-country music
On ninety-eight-point-one

Just so you know, so it’s set in stone
Kid Rock don’t come from where I come from
Yeah, it’s true, he’s a Yank, he ain’t no son of Hank
And if you even thought so
God-damn, you’re fuckin’ dumb

If that’s the case, it wouldn’t be the first time a black artist had a dalliance with (mostly white) country music, partially to take the piss and partially because they just wanted to: Bobby Womack did a country album in the mid-70s, BW Goes C&W, that Womack’s label at the time, United Artists, wouldn’t release unless the album title was changed. It did so poorly, Womack left UA for Columbia.

The title Womack originally wanted to use: Step Aside, Charley Pride, Give Another N***** a Try.
