Most petrol-based cars have a “limp home” mode, which will get you to your next destination. They don’t suffer catastrophic failures unless there is a major mechanical failure. In this case of this Ford vehicle, Ford screwed the pooch on not being able to roll back to the previous software image in order to get the vehicle back on the road.

EVs are supposed to have far fewer components vs. a fossil fueled vehicle to make them more reliable - but if a software upgrade bricks a car, that’s a huge problem.
