re: #123 A Mom Anon

Sadly, a big portion of the anti vaccine madness is online mommies groups. It’s been going on for a long time too. When my son was little and we were in the process of getting an autism diagnosis, I belonged to several message boards, via a place called ivillage. Boy did I get an earful of anti vax crap all over that community. Especially the autism and “healthy nutrition for your kids” boards. Fortunately, I actually had some pretty in depth science classes in high school and learned the differences in bacteria and viruses, what vaccines do and why they work, etc. And I liked science so I paid attention. But damn was there some crazy shit even then, late 90s/early 2000s . Things haven’t improved, and here we are.

Anti-Vax sadly has a lot of purchase across the political spectrum. The main difference is that you only really see Republican leaders pushing it in actual legislatures.
