Exactly. The dwarves of Moria could be black, purple or green, because dwarves and Moria never actually existed.

Most importantly, that determination is left up to the actual owners of the intellectual property, or the licensees thereof. As a fan, I don’t get to unilaterally declare something “isn’t Tolkien” just because it has Black people in it. If Christopher Tolkien says it’s okay, whether I disagree with him or not, it’s canon. Dwarves can be Black.
