That is the paradox of modern conservatism for you. On one hand you have the libertarian end of smaller government, some hints of which you can see in the Obama “base” against PATRIOT ACT surveillance. On the other hand you have this obsession with legislating morality (among other things, see the creationist movement.)

No- it’s the paradox of the constrained and unconstrained visions being in one party. If you are lucky, you will be assigned A Conflict of Vision in a class. I doubt any professor would want to give you such a fantastic opportunity, so you’ll likely have to get the book yourself.
