See Petero’s comments above. They were trying to repackage Romney as a turnaround specialist who could get America back on a path of economic growth and prosperity. To do so, they needed to convince independents and/or some Obama voters that Obama was a good shot, but he hasn’t gotten the job done as well as hoped for and that Romney can do better.

Eastwood could have been that kind of speaker - heck, turning that GM commercial into a plus in the GOP convention (after some on the right wing castigated him for doing the commercial) would have been quite the trick after all.

But Eastwood went off message and it became wrapped in incoherence.
