I’m not sure we could do that. Oftentimes sale of naval vessels has a contract clause forbidding such leases. Nor would giving cash to Greece be very popular in Congress, and such a deal would require an explicit appropriation by the Congress.

And that’s before we get into the question of training sailors to serve on them, securing spare parts and other necessities, and figuring out what to do with them.
