FBI Says Horne Clipped Car, Drove Off to Hide Affair

Tom Horne caused more than $1,000 worth of damage when he clipped another car in a parking garage and just drove off, in order, according to FBI agents, to conceal an affair he was having with his passenger.

Phoenix police records obtained Tuesday include detailed witness accounts by FBI agents who were following Horne, Arizona’s attorney general, on March 27 as part of a campaign finance investigation. They said they watched him back his borrowed vehicle into a white Range Rover in the parking garage of a Phoenix residential complex.

FBI agents said that after the fender-bender, Horne and the woman, since identified as Carmen Chenal, who works for Horne, walked off and entered the residential area of the complex where Chenal lives.

[…]

“What were they doing surveilling me?” Horne asked. “It seems to me that’s something that people should raise.”

“We have no comment at this time,” responded FBI spokesman Manuel Johnson.

[…]

The federal investigators were tailing Horne in the course of their investigation of Horne for allegations of campaign finance violations.

You can read more about Tom Horne’s history with Carmen Chenal here.

In 2005, Carmen Chenal lost her law license after repeated violations of state bar regulations.
In 2006, just a few months after losing her license to practice law, Chenal is hired by Horne to work for him at the Arizona Department of Education.
In November 2010, Horne was elected Arizona Attorney General and hired Chenal despite the fact that she did not have a law license.

Tom Horne is one of the main players in the effort to get rid of Mexican American Studies in the Tucson school district. You can read more about that here, and by clicking on the TUSD tag at the bottom of this post.

This is not Horne’s first run-in with the law.

Horne was the president of T.C. Horne & Co., an investment firm he founded in the late 1960s. After the firm went bankrupt in 1970, Horne received a lifetime trading ban from the Securities and Exchange Commission

I hope he is unable to finish his term in office. He was elected to a four year term two years ago.

Unnerstood. A neighbor gave me the wine as a thank you gift and it had been sitting in the fridge. Seemed like a good time to enjoy a glass... it's kinda watery or something and sugar sweet as opposed to naturally grape sweet, not at all what I expected. More like kool-aid.

I do think there is a sliver of a chance Romney wins popular, but the Electoral College is firmly Obama.

Bear with me. While NY, NJ, and CT are safe democratic states, many people may be unable to vote. this, combined with high turnout in the south would but Romney over Obama in sheer vote numbers. But the Democratic Turnout in the Swing States will put him over the top in the electoral college by a fair margin.

Hey, if Streamlined Moderne was fascist... uh, in every car of that period you were really riding with Hitler!

From wiki:

...the prime movers behind streamline design (Raymond Loewy, Walter Dorwin Teague, Gilbert Rohde, Norman Bel Geddes) all disliked Art Deco, seeing it as effete, falsely modern, essentially a fraud.

Strange, that's the same way I view mid-century graphic design.

With all this arguing over the automobile business in the US, and the he-said-she-said nature of what is happening, look at this screaming headline from Michigan online site MLive:

GM cuts thousands of jobs, expects to lose up to $1.8 billion in Europe this year

GM TO CUT THOUSANDS OF JOBS!!

Yeah, but ...

But the slashing of jobs curves right back around to the hemorrhaging European Economy, and how we got to this point in the first place.

For example, Germany forcing Greece to buy its subs in return for aid, putting Greece in more debt.

Germany doesn't care. Angela Merkel would lose votes if those subs weren't purchased. The people building them don't care what happens to Greece, not compared to making sure them keep their jobs.

Is that short-sighted? Yes. But when it comes to his livelihood, a man tends to be short-sighted. Not easy to worry about the long term when getting laid off means you're worried about how you are going to provide for your kids.

"If it flies it dies"
"If it hops it drops"
Jesus fish on the tailgate.
A rear bumper with two Maltese cross cutouts.
Baseball cap on the driver.

The truck changed lanes twice without signalling, just about clipping a car both times.

I have nothing against lifted trucks - back in 1984 I owned a full size 1978 Ford Bronco I lifted 3.5" and put 36" tires on, but...

I think it is really interesting that that the only Scandinavian Nation to join the Euro Currency, Finland, is suffering the worse. Iceland and Norway haven't joined, and Sweden and Denmark were suspicious of the Euro.

I think the old rivals of Denmark and Sweden were right. Really, Scandinavia needs to form its own little Scandinavian Union.

However, Germany's recent boom has been at the expense of every other nation in the Euro. I would heavily blame them for the implosion of the economies of Spain, Portugal, and Italy. Greece had issues before, that Germany exacerbated, and Ireland independently capsized itself with no outside influence. (They did what we did with TARP. Problem is, the debt they were dealing with was several times GDP, and that caused Ireland to Turtle).

Rush is hyper-partisan, he couldn't give a fuck less how bad things have gotten in NJ, just so long as Obama "pays" for it somehow. If Christie had met with Obama at the airport in the same manner that Brewer did months back, and had used the press conference to berate Obama for perceived "inadequacies" instead of thanking him and praising him, Rush would be printing up the "Christie '16" bumper stickers as we type.

Well now, they are stuck aren't they? Because Germany doesn't seem to give a damn about the economies of those nations, never mind they are consumers of Germany's products and if they don't buy, then German jobs vanish.

They need an organized exit strategy that doesn't smash them completely. I think we could help out Greece a little. Those subs Germany forced Greece to buy? Offer to snap them up. On the question of the subs: The Us Navy does not use diesel-electric subs like that and has not for decades. The basic issue is range, in that a nuclear sub has essentially unlimited range and German subs don't have the range we want for operations in the Pacific.

The real danger is that cash-strapped Greek officers might decide to sell the technical details of such subs to China. China has a small presence in Greece, but that would be enough to supply a suitcase full of Euros to some officer worried about his family in exchange for copies of some technical manuals.

Grecian jobs. The remaining Type 214 subs are all being built at the Hellenic Shipyards in Athens. Only the first of the six were made in Germany, and it launched in 2004. I'm sure some Germans are managing the construction because it's their design and technology, but the vast majority of the shipbuilding jobs are held by Greeks.

I seriously want to know how the German plan for "helping" works. Cut safety net, and government workers to the bone, and slash the pay of the remaining to nothing, driving people to poverty. This causes tax revenue to dry up, and for people to stop buying things, creating more unemployment, and driving the cycle continuing down.

These countries, even Greece (whose role in Bosnia and Kosovo I despise) did nothing to deserve this. Greece paid it's karmic debt very early on in the crisis. This is just horrible.

Well, at least buy them off so China can't get them.

Or hell, "lease" them from Greece, where we have them, and Greece is getting some money. Cause I think at this point, Greece is in for decades of suffering.

I'm not sure we could do that. Oftentimes sale of naval vessels has a contract clause forbidding such leases. Nor would giving cash to Greece be very popular in Congress, and such a deal would require an explicit appropriation by the Congress.

Ooh, that would go over well.

Not only did he thank the POTUS during a disaster, but he was complimentary about said POTUS and the administration's response to that disaster. Apparently, this is treason now to the wingnuts. WTF.

And because it's my last night in California and I haven't done this in a while, I'm putting on the hazmat suit and venturing over to Freeper-ville to see how they're dealing with this:

I’d be more concerned if Jersey was in play.

It isn’t, so anything that keeps Obama off the campaign trail is fine with me.
---

Standing next to Christie makes 0bama look and sound small.
And that's just based on the relative abilities of each to project actual competence.
---

I’ve never been a fan of Christie’s, and I think you’re right. He’s looking out for himself and his own state.

His support for Romney is secondary. He knows NJ is going to the Marxist anyway.
---

the point is that this whole thing is about Christie’s re election, NOT Obama’s.
---

I just think Christie was/is having some over-emotional response to the storm and damage. You know how when something very bad happens, how you can tend to have a kumbaya kind of feeling. It’s usually fleeting but in Christie’s case, it’s not very helpful to the rest of us not crying over the forever changed shore line of the Jersey Shore.
---

Understand Christy's position, but think perhaps his praise should have been a bit tempered. What happens in 6 days may very well determine what his state's economy looks like in 6 months. That is if you believe as many do that businesses are sitting on expansion cash waiting to see who wins and if Christy believes that a Romney win is actually good for his state.
---

On one level I understand this. On another, I'm really steamed.
Lots of bad things have happened to Americans in red states during Bammy's regime. Think the oil spill, the Texas fires and draught, floods in Nashville...

Precious O didn't give a damn. Not one damn. Did Jindhal get a helping hand? Perry?

But Christie slobbers all over Obama. For what? For pretending to do his job?

I understand. But I don't like it. And I'm not really liking Christie that much.
---

This love fest is embarassing. Geeez!
---

This is exactly what I think. He is up for re-election and its all about him right now. That’s why he grabbed zero’s coattails.
---

Classy as always.

Some commenters on Sam Wang's website put together this electoral vote counting spreadsheet. (.xls format)

Notice that despite NC being colored in on the map this version of the spreadsheet treats it as a swings state, so you can fill in R in the appropriate box of leave it blank depending on your own inclination. I tend to think NC isn't going to happen for us this time around.

Playing around with it you'll see that if Obama wins Ohio and Wisconsin he only needs either Virginia, Colorado, Iowa, or Nevada to seal the deal. Looking at the polling one has to ask, if Obama is winning Ohio and Wisconsin, how could he not also be winning both Iowa and Nevada?

Romney is quickly running out of room to maneuver. The momentum appears to be against him, he has too many states to try to resuscitate in the very little time lef and he has no further opportunities like a debate to change the national narrative.

The reaction to Christie tells me that the GOP is just about through the denial stage of Kübler-Ross and are now moving on to anger.

On another topic, one about which I have whined here before - way too often in today's visual entertainment (TV, movies), the protagonists are written to be too stupid of characters.

TV in particular has on the whole taken their products and written them down to hit the 10-13 yo market. Yes, children are the most easily manipulated by commercials, but does every program have to be populated by one dimensional characters and in-your-face plot points?

Oh good lord, the wingnuts are delusional. From Joel Pollack over at Breitbart and his theory on Christie's praise of Obama:

But the truth about Christie’s outreach to Obama is blindingly obvious: Mitt Romney is now running away with this election, freeing Christie to praise the president without fear that doing so will tip the scales......

....Romney’s lead in the national polls may appear small(ed. "small," as in non-existent), but it is likely much more significant, since the electorate that shows up on Tuesday will include proportionally fewer Democrats than most polls have assumed thus far....

Democrats and journalists have clung desperately to one illusion after another–first, that Obama was winning in Ohio, until that was no longer true; next, that Obama had an edge in early voting, until that was wrong; and finally, that Obama had a stronger ground game, until that began to fall apart.

Now that Obama is on defense in blue states such as Pennsylvania, Minnesota, Oregon and Michigan, a Romney victory is within reach.

After Brutal Polling Day, Romney Team Reassures That They’ll Win

Mitt Romney’s top staff offered reporters an endless number of reasons they’re going to beat President Obama on a conference call Wednesday. Not included on their list of Romney advantages: a clear lead in the polls.

“Obama has a political enviroment problem,” Romney pollster Neil Newhouse said. “He’s got an intensity problem, he’s got an image problem and he’s got a ballot problem — and they all add up to a challenging Tuesday next week.”

The call came as recent data shows Obama with a small, but persistent lead in enough states to win 270 electoral votes. Wednesday was a particularly rough day for Romney on that front, featuring new surveys in which Obama held a solid lead in Ohio, surged to an 8-point lead in Wisconsin, and even led by 5 nationally in one case. But Romney aides insisted things were on the right track.

“We feel we are in a very good place, that this race is exactly where we had hoped it would be a week out,” senior adviser Russ Schriefer said.

While the campaign never went so far as to say it held a lead in key states like Ohio, Wisconsin, or Nevada in public or internal polls, staffers pointed to various reasons they felt Obama still held a losing hand.

“Right now their firewall is burning,” political director Rich Beeson told reporters.

BTW, the racist right lost another one of their heroes, with the passing last week of Arthur Jensen. The usual suspects are writing obits, etc.

From my perspective, the racists over-play the importance race was to Jensen and the science community's approach to IQ.

As I've mentioned a few times before, the whole Genetics As Destiny is a very powerful one, that takes root very easily. Other than morphology, DNA is not all powerful when it comes to the large scale, systematic expressions to the organism as a whole. Above the cellular level, development and especially in humans culture plays key roles in what we are.

Romney Don't Know Why. (by ausador 2012)

Sung to the tune of "Everything You Want" by Vertical Horizon.

Somewhere there's voting
Their already coming in
Oh and it's frightening in the back of your mind
He never could win it
Unless he "misstated" it
Now you're scared and you don't know why

But under his pressed suits and the skid marks
Past business places where they used to work
You stop and you listen
Listen and wait for the
Echoes of outsourced who won't return

[Chorus]
He says everything you want
He says everything you need
Yes he's changing right in front of you
To be what you wish he could be
He says all the right things
At exactly the right time
But he means nothing to you
And Romney don't know why

You're waiting for someone
To fix the economy
You're waiting for someone with a plan that pays
But there's always another lie to discover
There's always some truth that you wish he'd say

[Repeat Chorus]

But you'll just sit tight
And watch him unwind
He's just not what you're asking for
And you'll be just fine
Past election time
He's not the one your voting for

Out of the campaign
Into the voting booth
Your past all the places where you might have turned
You always did notice
The flip-flops explained away
The search for true Romney who won't return

[Romney Chorus]
I say everything you want
I say everything you need
Yes I'm changing right in front of you
To be what you wish I could be
I say all the right things
At exactly the right time
But I mean nothing to you and I don't know why
And I don't know why
Why
I don't know

Wounded veteran gets mortgage-free home in Tampa
TAMPA — The Tampa Palms home stood empty and dilapidated for four years after its owner lost it to foreclosure, one of thousands of broken dreams scattered across Tampa Bay.

Neighbors wondered if anyone would ever again live in the home, which is worth about $186,000. Bank of America ensured that with one act Wednesday — the bank gave it away.

So I guess this one has Democrats all figured out...

Where do Democrats come from?

In arithmetic, numbers are either positive or negative. Human choices are like numbers. Our choices are sometimes positive and do good. Other times, our choices are negative and do harm.

Choices result in actions. Like actions, choices either help or hurt. They are either positive or negative.

Most of us are raised by families who have a certain amount of love. The more love that surrounds us when we are growing up, the more positive we tend to be.

There are people who did not grow up with as much love as they wanted. They tend to become angry, bitter people. Discord and divorce reduce the amount of love available for those in families destroyed by competing demands for love outside of marriage.

The lack of love brings fear, envy, and anger. Many become attached to those feelings. They refuse to find The Loving Programmer and gain access to the endless, eternal love He has for His beloved human programs.

So, where do Democrats come from?

They are drawn from those overwhelmed by fear, envy, and anger. They may be convinced that they are so entitled to things, replacements for love, that they have the right to take them from their neighbors.

Fear, envy, and anger are living, negative spirits. They lead those under their sway to become Democrats. And, worse.

There are things worse than being a Democrat? Quickly, bring my fainting couch!

307 ghazidor  Thu, Nov 1, 2012 5:05:23am

Same guy on why Democrats like soccer...

Evil does not like intelligence. Hitting hard soccer balls with their heads makes hundreds of millions of middle-class children far less able to do well than they would have otherwise been. After they are dumbed-down, they are dragged down, unable to solve problems as effectively as they could have if child abusers had not damaged their brains by having hard soccer balls slamming endlessly into their heads.

That’s why soccer is beloved by the dumb and the damned. It seems more popular with Democrats than Republicans, though, on analysis, it is usually Democrats behind the process by which so many Republican children’s minds are weakened.

To many leftists, soccer is a “fairness issue” by which those pesky smart people can be brought to lower levels of achievement and accomplishment. There are lots of reasons why soccer is beloved by the dumb and the damned.

We have a goddamn educational crisis in this country. That is the main thing that we have. We have a problem of people not being educated to figure out what is fucking bullshit, and to use rationality.

It is a problem that will get worse in the areas where the GOP succeeds in defunding public schools and sending that money to the fanatical religious schools, too.

This is not a problem that will go away. The miseducated mostly remain so their whole lives long.

Quick, someone warn Great Leader Soros, they have discovered the plan and must be dealt with!

Sandy’s timing has many people speculating that the storm’s path is an engineered event. On Thursday, HaarpStatus.com reported elevated levels of HAARP frequency in the ionosphere above the East Coast of the United States. HaarpStatus describes itself as “a real-time sensor network from over 28 sensors placed in rural areas across the United States.”

“From a 9.1 this morning to a 9.5 tonight, this area is in grave danger and this has been building for a week now,” the site reported yesterday. “Hurricane Sandy is coming as a result of a week of high impacted readings in the ionosphere.”...

...According to some observers, bad weather on election day will work in Obama’s favor. “Obama has been effective at getting voters to vote early, so anything affecting turnout on Election Day is likely to be bad news for Romney,” John Hudak, a governance studies fellow at Brookings, told U.S. News & World Report. “It would certainly set up a benefit to the president if a natural disaster did interrupt voting.”

It is not clear why the ruling elite want to make Obama look presidential at Romney’s expense, however. Both candidates are preened race horses for the ruling global elite and with a few notable exceptions their agendas are almost identical.

It is at infowars so no linky here...

Voter disenfranchisement upheld in Montana... (and wait until you see who made this decision).

Judge rejects Native Americans' lawsuit over access to polling places

A federal judge in Montana has shot down an attempt by Native American tribes to get better voting access.

In an election where the Native American vote could make or break Sen. Jon Tester's (D-Mont.) return to Capitol Hill and the fate of the Democratic majority in the Senate, U.S. District Judge Richard Cebull has rejected a legal push by Montana tribes to set up satellite offices on three reservations where thousands of eligible voters could go to complete their late registration or early voting forms.

“I'm not arguing that the opportunity is equal for Indian persons as it is to non-Indians," Cebull said, according to the Associated Press. "Because of poverty, because of the lack of vehicles and that sort of thing, it's probably not equal. However, you have to prove ... that they can't elect candidates of their choice."

The 15 Native American plaintiffs and the Department of Justice say the state is violating the Voters Rights Act and discriminating against Indian voters by not giving them the same access as white Montanans.

If the name of the judge sounds familiar, that's because he has been in the news himself recently:

Richard Cebull, Montana Federal Judge, Admits Forwarding Racist Obama Email

Montana's chief federal judge admitted on Wednesday that he forwarded an email comparing African-Americans to dogs and implying that President Barack Obama's mother had sex with animals.

Richard Cebull's email, obtained by the Great Falls Tribune, reads: "Normally I don't send or forward a lot of these, but even by my standards, it was a bit touching. I want all of my friends to feel what I felt when I read this. Hope it touches your heart like it did mine."

A joke then follows: "A little boy said to his mother; 'Mommy, how come I'm black and you're white?' His mother replied, 'Don't even go there Barack! From what I can remember about that party, you're lucky you don't bark!'

Scalia flummoxed about natural born citizenship
Exclusive: Larry Klayman asks justice for definition of term used in Constitution

Last week, I had the occasion to cross paths with “revered” Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia. Scalia has been for many years the darling of conservatives, a judge who they believed had the guts to enforce the Rule of Law and the Constitution in the face of corrosive influences, foreign and domestic. I took the occasion to ask him a simple question, one he would be able to answer. I asked the “constitutionalist” Scalia what he believed to be the definition of “natural born citizen,” without asking him to render an opinion on whether Obama was eligible to be president, given that Obama’s father was not a citizen of the United States at the time he claims falsely that he was born here.

Looking like a deer in the headlights and stuttering sheepishly, Justice Scalia responded, “I don’t know. Isn’t a natural born citizen a person born in this country?” I pressed on, asking “then why are there separate references to ‘citizen’ and ‘natural born citizen’ in the Constitution?” Again, Justice Scalia, pulling back out of apparent fright at having to give a straight answer, responded in the same fashion, “I don’t know.”

re: #326 Tiny Alien Kitties are Watching You

From the comments there:

Like Romney said you have people in this country especially the teenagers , younger people from the 47% are trained by their parents to apply for all the free government programs that are available , because their parents taught them that this is just a payback for what this nation did to their ancenters when they were slaves. Example one young black kid asked his parents why he deserves free lunch at school as his parents both work , we have two cars a big house that we have a summer house and always have money. He was told by his parents this is just payback for what happened in the 40's 50's and 60's. The same with illegal immigrants , they are taught how to use the system , how to get Food Stamps, free education and free medical care. They have never paid one dime into the system , however it is advertised to them in Mexico , come to the US , get Free Food, Free education , free medical....

A couple of things from there:

1. Apparently, really, to this person, the 47% are black people.

2. Trying to slam blacks for being lazy welfare-grubbers works better if you don't say "his parents both work". Get your bigotry straight.

re: #1 Charles Johnson

And of course, he's a "family values" Republican, busily protecting the "sanctity of marriage."

Arizona Attorney General Tom "Sanctity of Marriage" Horne Exposed as Adulterer.

If a politician, especially a Republican, ever comes out strongly for "family values" or "sanctity of marriage", there is a greater than 50% chance he's cheating on his wife. If he's really big on the "one man and one woman" thing, there is a greater than 50% chance he's cheating on his wife with another man.

Was listening to Boortz this morning on the way to work and, as usual, he's doing his insipid spiel about "49.1% are voting to keep getting government checks instead of freedom arglebarglebargle", and it reminded me again how much I rage at the very notion of Republicans invoking "freedom" as something their party stands for or a reason you should vote for them.

Look, I get that you guys want to pay less in taxes. I get that you want business to be able to fuck customers and the environment up without oversight. I get that you want incredibly wealthy people to be able make enormous attempts to buy elections using the anonymizing screen of their corporate holdings as a shield. Yeah, that's a kind of freedom.

But you also want the government to be able to tell me which consenting adults I can or can't marry. You also want the government to be able to tell me which plants I can or can't smoke. You also want the government to be able to tell my wife what she can and can't do with her body. You also want the government to be able to beat or harass or imprison me with impunity and without evidence because, hey, I shouldn't have been looking at that cop/FBI agent funny. That's the opposite of freedom.

So please, just own up to it and call yourselves "The Party of Government-As-Tool-of-Business", and drop the whole "freedom" act.

Obama's leading in the polls in those two states pretty solidly. Mitt Romney showing up and insulting the locals isn't going to swing that many people in his favor...in fact, the more he appears in a state, the worse his numbers get. See Ohio.

NBC is doing a benefit concert for victims of Hurricane Sandy featuring some artists native to the areas hardest hit.

Bruce Springsteen and Jon Bon Jovi of New Jersey and Billy Joel of Long Island are scheduled to appear at the concert Friday.

The telecast will benefit the American Red Cross and be shown on NBC and its cable stations including Bravo, CNBC, USA, MSNBC and E! Other networks are invited to join in.

---

I understand the RWNJs are already complaining about this. For the life of me I can't figure out why.

All liberals and NBC's cable division is seen as the liberal newsnet. It's not a problematic event, however, as long as politics is kept out of it. Simple way to do this: Don't Kanye West have part in it.

Judging by my twitter feed, the answer is yes.

Obama has stated that he wants to increase student loans for college students. Obama has also indicated that he wants the government to decide EVERY student's major when they go to college. The students won't be able to decide for themselves. Pundits Vs. Nate Silver, Data Vs. "Gut"

Nate Silver has a computer model. Each day he plugs the data from the various national and swing state polls into that model, numbers are crunched, simulations are run, and he posts the results on his New York Times blog indicating who is more likely to win the presidential election: Barack Obama or Mitt Romney. (As of this posting, Silver's analysis has Obama winning in 74.6 percent of scenarios.) And for this, Silver is coming under attack from pundits who insist that their gut feeling tells them the race is a true toss-up.

"Anybody that thinks that this race is anything but a tossup right now is such an ideologue, they should be kept away from typewriters, computers, laptops and microphones for the next 10 days, because they're jokes," complained Joe Scarborough on the October 29 Morning Joe.

Don't trust those smarty pants with their maths and stuff. Go with your gut.

The most telling part of that article comes at the end:

Earlier this year, the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops proclaimed that the federal budget must place “[t]he needs of those who are hungry and homeless, without work or in poverty” first — adding that the Republican budget authored by vice presidential candidate Paul Ryan “fails to meet these moral criteria.” Pope Benedict XVI, for his part, called for more robust government involvement to combat wealth inequality. Yet Jenky seems completely unmoved by these prongs of Catholic doctrine.

Jenky’s opposition to birth control all puts him wildly out of step with his flock. 82 percent of Catholics say birth control is “morally acceptable,” and 54 percent of Catholics believe religiously affiliated organizations should be required to offer health plans to their employees that include contraception coverage.

You can say "Well, Obama wants to round up dissenters to strengthen his grip on the country". That makes sense, to a point. But here's the problem: Do you really think our allies would be very thrilled with that? Surely Israel, who knows a thing or two about scenarios like this, would be vehemently opposed to it.

Then we take it one step further and say well Obama hates Israel and America anyway so this is in line with what someone who holds such beliefs would do but I don't understand what Obama has to gain by theoretically destroying America and our long partnership with Israel.

He doesn't mind Rush the Hutt or the rest of the right wing freakout machine going off on him - it's excellent camouflage.

In the end, while he might be slightly better than Santorum, it's only a small difference of degree. Santorum is, at least, open about his desire to create a falangist type of fascism in America and people like Christie are more than happy to go along with that since they aren't the ones who will lose their freedoms or paychecks.

So I was trying to explain to someone why the FEMA camps theory seems a bit odd. After all, what benefit would there be for the U.S. to forcibly confine considerable segments of their population?

You can say "Well, Obama wants to round up dissenters to strengthen his grip on the country". That makes sense, to a point. But here's the problem: Do you really think our allies would be very thrilled with that? Surely Israel, who knows a thing or two about scenarios like this, would be vehemently opposed to it.

Then we take it one step further and say well Obama hates Israel and America anyway so this is in line with what someone who holds such beliefs would do but I don't understand what Obama has to gain by theoretically destroying America and our long partnership with Israel.

It doesn't have to make any sense. All you need to know is that the ni-*CLANG* in the whitehouse need to be replaced because freedomorsomethingidunno

So here's a dilemma for you. My wife and I live in Mass. In 2008 we went up to NH on election day to work for the Obama campaign (and personally turned the tide up there, if truth be known). Now we're dithering. Should we do it again, or should we stay home and work for Warren for Senate? We're leaning Warren, I think. It's hard to imagine a scenario where NH is a make-or-break state for Obama. OTOH if things go badly, I'd rather have Brown in the Senate than Romney in the WH.

I popped into work to see how my coworkers made out regarding Sandy. Those living south of Philly pretty much saw very little damage. I'm not doubting he's done good things... just his label as "musician". ;)

On the other side of that coin... Ted Nugent is an amazing musician, but I really do not like his political leanings. He's done some good stuff for troops too IIRC, and I still listen to his music. But when it comes to his grandstanding and lecturing? Just shut up and play, please.

That goes for actors/musicians in general. If I'm at a show, I'm not there to hear political bs. :)

Bruce Springsteen, Jon Bon Jovi, Christina Aguilera to perform at live concert to benefit Hurricane Sandy victims

NBC is throwing a live benefit concert to aid victims of Hurricane Sandy, the network announced Thursday.

"Hurricane Sandy: Coming Together” will air Friday from 8 p.m. to 9 p.m. EST on several broadcast, cable and Internet networks, including NBC, NBC.com, USA Network, SyFy, MSNBC, CNBC, Bravo, E!, Style Network and G4, the network said.

A tape delayed broadcast will air on the West Coast.

Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band, Jon Bon Jovi, Sting, Christina Aguilera and Billy Joel are scheduled to perform, and the concert will be hosted by “Today” show host Matt Lauer.

Sounds like a fun time. I don't know the politics of everyone and I don't give a shit. Good for them raising money like that :)

re: #416 William Barnett-Lewis

While I can understand your desire that a "only Nixon could go to China" kind of thing happens, I think its a fantasy.

1) Democrats will not work with him.
2) If he's not perceived as a "True Believer then the TPer's will oppose him, which leads to
3) He's not nearly as moderate as he's being portrayed at the moment.

He's got a tough re-election coming up and playing nice with the president is simply good politics in a very Blue state. His natural ideology can be seen when he hangs with the Koch's.

That's a fairly astute reading of Christie. He knows what it's going to take to get the POTUS nomination in 2016. Don't be surprised if he starts dong things like bashing the Muslims he's appointed to office and suddenly agitating for Roe v. Wade to be overturned.

He really shouldn't be thrown in a bundle with Ted Nugent, who *is* skin-crawlingly horrid in that his politics is a mix of racism, Neo-Confederate posturing, and sovereign citizen violent fantasies.

You really have to hear it to get the full greasiness, but a bit of it goes like this:

Terry Gross: Gene Simmons, welcome to Fresh Air.

Gene Simmons: Thank you.

Terry Gross: Let's start with the makeup. Did you like being covered up on stage, did it make you feel any less vulnerable, or any less like Gene Simmons or your other names -- Gene Klein or Chaim White, which was your birth name?

Gene Simmons: Close, but no guitars. It's Chaim Witz.

Terry Gross: Oh, thanks. Okay.

Gene Simmons: You said it -- well, the name came out through a gentile mouth, so it didn't quite have the flavor. It came out bland.

Terry Gross: Well it's ... it's not a gentile mouth.

Gene Simmons: Ooh! Maybe it's a discussion we can have.

Terry Gross: Okay.

Gene Simmons: But let's not start something we're not going to finish.

It goes downhill from there. He makes gross sexual innuendo towards the interviewer and all sorts of crap. I don't know if he's trying to be funny, but he just comes across as a pig.

It depends. When I worked at Bloom, if packaging was damaged too badly it got tossed. It could also be that they let it get to room temp. That was also a no-no with certain things.

They can do what they want. No policy for throwing away bad food. It would be difficult to keep track of the food restaurants and stores toss. I'm sure one day there will be a regulation for that anyway.

Again, it has the same star pattern as is what's on the "N" on the shirt

OH NOES,,,, THE NFL IS A SEEKRIT CORNFEDERITE COVER!!!

Why don't you just come out and defend the use of the Confederate flag?

599 Varek Raith  Thu, Nov 1, 2012 10:19:38am

Yep, I'm sure the NFL didn't realize their hat looked like the CSA flag.
Totally plausible.

Porter: Obama to use FEMA to 'Stifle Dissent'

Is it a standing army to stifle dissent? That’s what some think the real purpose is for the new group that the government calls FEMA Corps. In September, the Department of Homeland Security graduated its first class of 231 students, consisting of 18 to 24 year olds who were recruited from the President’s AmeriCorps volunteers.

Some question whether they are really part of a new civilian security force that President Obama has called for in speeches. Reasons for the concern include FEMA’s 2,500 new armored vehicles that come complete with slots for machine guns.

I know it sound’s unbelievable, but so does the fact that Homeland Security has purchased more than one billion bullets this year.

It’s time to take a closer look into FEMA Corps!

Part of the reason it sounds unbelievable is because Janet Porter is full of shit.

I wonder if Chris Christie who has praised the President's response and knows how helpful FEMA can be is watching these people and thinking "These are the type of people I need to get support from to get the nomination for president? Holy fuck."

You're stuck on the one photo. I showed you others including his stupid comment blowing off the Confederate flag. I can't help you.

Even the one photo it is plainly obvious that the hat is the CSA battle flag no matter what other shit might be on it.

Why does nobody ever ask the obvious follow-up question to shit like this?

"If they really were planning to convert FEMA into an oppressive paramilitary force for rounding up citizens and suppressing dissent, why the fuck are you still here posting articles about it and not in a FEMA camp being suppressed?

Bloomberg and Cuomo and Christie should get together and do a charity fundraiser. Give people in NY and NJ the chance to film a video of their own telling Trump to go fuck himself. Charge those folks $1 a minute.

They'd have the recovery paid for in a matter of days.

609 makeitstopghazi  Thu, Nov 1, 2012 10:24:42am

Call it a hunch, but I'm beginning to think we'll see a Romney-approved Birther ad sometime before Tuesday - or at least a high-profile buy from one of the SuperPACs.

They're throwing everything at this point. That quiver is quickly running out of arrows, and they're bound to use the worst as they realize the less-bad ones are not working.

This could be easily solved by finding that hat on a sports store site or NFL site.

And, to no surprise, I can find nothing remotely close to it.

Well their response to that I would imagine would be akin to what LaPierre of the NRA says about guns. "It's coming after he's re-elected." These idiots don't know how dictatorships work.

Same thing as the loose change guys.

"You guys uncovered a plot where the government coordinated the deaths of thousands of Americans, you uncovered it and posted it on the internet, yet they didn't kill you and wipe out your existence. How does that work?"

Nah Trump's sheer ego. By the way regarding him, has anyone heard anything about some controversies with golf courses in the UK? Apparently it's really pissed off some of the locals. My cousin lives in the UK and posted something about Trump and golf courses recently. Not totally sure what it was all about.

Donald has complained that wind turbines were "ruining the view" from one of his golf courses in Scotland.

They can do what they want. No policy for throwing away bad food. It would be difficult to keep track of the food restaurants and stores toss. I'm sure one day there will be a regulation for that anyway.

Don't need a regulation. Any restaurant/grocer/fast food place keeps an eye on spoilage and reports it in some way (as best as can be accounted for). If you are talking what people order but don't eat, as far as I know in places I have worked that is not counted because it had already been sold and was a plus in the ledger not a loss that needed counting.

Sorry for the late reply. If you're e-mailing it, there's probably no need to zip it. That's pretty small.

If you do need to compress it, grab a copy of WinZip if you're on Windows. It's not free, but the trial version should work for a few days. If you're on a Mac, just right click the file and select "Compress."

Tom Horne resigned from the ADL because the Arizona Regional board, of which he was a member, took a stand against the measure that outlawed Mexican American Studies.

[...]

Bill Straus, head of the Arizona Region of the ADL, told Jewish News, "Tom obviously had a philosophical difference with the people on my board and me over the proposed ban on Latino-American ethnic studies programs like the one in the TUSD. There's a strong feeling of opposition to his attempt to rescind a program that has so obviously resuscitated the desire to learn in so many students."
