re: Trump and perjury: It’s very possible that Trump will perjure himself on the stand, but it’s very rare that prosecutors actually pursue charges for perjury on the stand. Rather, they want to catch defense witnesses in lies, so they can discredit their whole testimony with, “Well, were you lying in your deposition, or are you lying now?” Convincing a jury they can’t believe either version of a witness’s story is the end goal. They would only hold the threat of perjury over Trump’s head if they needed him to say something specific to bolster their case, but that would be more likely for one of their own witnesses, not a witness for the defense.
