Gary Brooker’s in excellent voice, and Matthew Fisher’s organ solo in this performance is a significant departure (in a good way) from the version we’ve all heard a million times.

Normalcy bias causes people to become so used to watching the inferno burn others up that they will perceive its absence as a threat to themselves, and then desperately try to relight the fire when it goes out.

The elevator pitch: what if Omelas had two tormented children that could not be offered comfort?

Why Are GOP State Lawmakers Introducing Bills Based on Claims by Fringe Conspiracy Theorists?

SB 2691, sponsored by Sen. Steve Southerland (R-Morristown), never specifically mentions the dubious claims made by conspiracy theorists about the dangers of so-called “chemtrails,” however, when speaking about the bill, Southerland directly mentioned “chemtrails.”

“If you look at a thousand planes, you won’t see one (chemtrail). But then all of a sudden you see one,” Southerland told the Tennessee Lookout. “So we’re just asking the question: Are they putting anything in the air that could be toxic?”

Why Are GOP State Lawmakers Introducing Bills Based on Claims by Fringe Conspiracy Theorists?

I’d point out that we’re decades and decades into the US right wing asserting that nothing bad can happen without it having some kind of causal component. All bad events are indicative of a General Badness, whether that arises from spiritual forces or human forces, and the correct solution to all problems is identifying the malefactor and punishing them.

If you want to fix the world, just give them control. And more control. And more control.

Nothing will work if you don’t give them, the people that deserve all the power, all the power.

Conspiracist baking is just the embarrassing edge of this phenomenon, the point where the need to assert control intersects with things beyond control and just pushes through the consensual understanding of “what is real” to find the secret, hidden way that the thing in question is attacking the conspiracist.

Chemtrails are better understand as an outgrowth of narcissism and overconfidence than as an explanatory structure, a bit of episteme: the conspiracist sees something in the sky they can’t explain and assumes it must be there because of them, and it follows since the thing is uncomfortable that it must be sinister. Once you start down this set of assumptions it’s not too long before various versions of “it’s strange, therefore it is attacking me” syncretize…in this case, geoengineering and chemtrails being twisted into a single thing, and that braid in turn likely being linked up to conspiracy tropes so repeated that they’re practically motifs—WEF, Klaus Schwab, the UN, etc—because the bigger the opponent the more important the believer.

There’s a sadder version of this same thing—desperate people cling to beliefs that allow them to feel control, so anxiety and depression afflicted people, as well as people with cognitive disorder or decline, are very vulnerable to conspiracy because they need structure and stability even if it’s illusory…conspiracies un-complicate the world…but I doubt those are the people lobbying and writing laws.

Yes, the new battery powered chainsaws are excellent!

They are starting to match the power of 2-cycle (ice) chainsaws; Are quieter; Make far less of a mess; Eliminate most of the maintenance hassle due to no ice; Start more easily; And are probably safer as the chain stops more quickly than in a 2-cycle.

Three things I personally have learned about chainsaws in general are:
1. Get a sharpening kit and learn how to sharpen the chain
2. Get a set of plastic felling wedges
3. For those with no experience on chainsaws, it is really worthwhile to take a course in chainsaw use.

‘Who did Jesus prefer?’ Trump skewered online for posting portrait with divine figure

Donald Trump Friday was ridiculed on social media after he posted an image showing himself with Jesus standing behind him.

Trump earlier in the day posted the picture, which features the former president sitting down with Jesus draped behind him, touching the ex-president’s shoulders. The text says, “Strengthen him, Lord. Send legions of angels to protect him, father.”

Trump didn’t include any words of his own with the post, but Africa Today’s (and GOP Stenographer) Simon Ateba wrote that Trump had called “on Jesus Christ to strengthen him ahead of trial in New York and various other attacks from the left.”

The internet, however, was not as forgiving in its descriptions of the post.

Responding to Ateba, one commenter wrote, “Did anyone hear Trump call on Jesus Christ to strengthen him ahead of his trial associated with cheating on his wife while paying off pornstars & hiding the payoff illegal from campaign finances? Could a purported Christian like Simon be a liar?”

Separately, independent journalist Aaron Rupar sarcastically wrote with the image, “having a normal one.”

Media legal analyst Jeffrey Evan Gold added, “He looks pretty worried. But he’ll do fine in prison with the help of Jesus.”

Political and legal commentator Allison Gill, better known as “Mueller, She Wrote,” also flagged the post from Trump.

“It’s been a while since I was in Catholic school, but who did Jesus prefer: Mary Magdalene, or the wealthy real estate developer who hoarded his riches?” she asked. She then added, “[Trial] starts Monday.”

Popular political social media account The Shallow State also chimed in on the Trump post.

“[That’s] Satan, dressing up like Jesus again, you gotta love his humor.”

@vampire_skwid wrote in response to Gill’s post, “Why is Kenny Loggins giving Trump a shoulder massage?”

I haven’t slung a chainsaw since I carried a 32” Stihl when I was fighting fires with the Forest Service in 1988. Don’t need wedges for the size stuff I’m taking out, and I’m working top down, not trying to drop it as a piece.

As for safety, the chain stops when you let go of the trigger, and it’s a two button combo to start it again so you can’t accidentally pull the trigger and fire it up next to your leg.

Need to get some safety glasses - should have grabbed a pair when I was getting chain lube….probably tomorrow. Sharpening kit is next on my list. I’ve hand sharpened enough blades.

And yes, I was surprised at how well it cut through ripe green Oleander…like butter.

“Republican candidates in close races across the country who once fervently backed severe abortion restrictions are shifting how they talk about the issue,” CNN reports.

“On social media, in public comments and in talking points on their websites, candidates are shying away from past hard-line positions and softening their stances. In some cases, the changes have been overt, with candidates reversing course on supporting outright bans on abortion or even denying they ever opposed it.”

“But in others, the shift has been more subtle and nuanced, with candidates altering or deleting previous statements, or de-emphasizing stances that had been more central to their platform just a few years ago.”

none of us ever said any of that stuff.

Years ago I decided to take out some Oleander bushes that the prior owner of my property planted.

Electric (plug in) chainsaw struggled. And then I was left with stumps that took me days to dig out by hand.

I did not take any special precautions, but I always wore gloves, long sleeves, and eye protection.

Every part of the Oleander is poisonous, but AFAIK one has to ingest it to be poisoned.

It’s not like the Urushiol oil found in Poison Ivy and relatives.

Earlier this morning I posted some video examples I made with Udio.

Udio is getting a lot of attention this week.

Many think it quite a step up from Suno.

My experience so far is that one can get sound from Udio that fits into the parameters of “pop” music quite well.

If all you want to do is tap your toes then Udio can pump out that sound.

But if you look for a more meaningful experience with music then I find Udio suffers from the usual AI vapidity.

But pop music lovers may not care.

(this is pulpwood chainsaw SOP)

Get a couple of round files & handles of the proper size to sharpen your chain. If running an ICE chainsaw - get yellow foam ear plugs.

Stop cutting every 15 minutes and “strike” (sharpen) your chain. If you strike your chain before it gets really dull, it’ll take far less time to maintain sharpness and give you a break every 15 minutes from the exertion of running a chain saw.

You’ll get more work done at what appears to be a slower pace, and accomplish more in less time.

It’s not that. It’s because their pastor told them to vote for Trump because he hates abortion, and God hates abortion, and Trump’s gonna make Christianity the national religion and then we’ll be one nation under God again, and no more kneeling for the national anthem or disrespecting the police or any of those un-patriotic things.

Oh my. Selfish Narcissistic Nincompoop is upset…

Caitlyn Jenner: Stop Comparing My Car Crash to O.J. Case

“Remember…OJ said something to the effect of…I could kill her (Nicole) and get away with it,” Jenner wrote on X on Friday.

On Thursday, when O.J. Simpson’s family announced that he had passed away after battling cancer, Caitlyn Jenner wasted no time in making her feelings known on the matter.

“Good Riddance #OJSimpson,” Jenner, who was entangled with Simpson via the Kardashians and who, like Simpson, was an elite athlete, posted on X on Friday. This prompted several commenters to point out that Jenner herself isn’t exactly morally spotless.

“I’m sure the family of that person you ran over can’t WAIT to say the same about you,” one person commented. “Didn’t you kill somebody with your car,” another wrote.

In 2017, a wrongful death lawsuit was filed against Jenner by the stepchildren of Kim Howe, who was killed in 2015 when Jenner rear-ended her, sending Howe careening into a fatal crash with an approaching Hummer.

In the lawsuit, Howe’s stepchildren described Jenner as “careless, negligent and reckless.”

“I know you all think it’s cute to compare a fatal car accident (with multiple vehicles involved) to a BRUTAL MURDER…,” Jenner wrote on X on Friday, “But Remember…OJ said something to the effect of…I could kill her (Nicole) and get away with it bc I’m “#OJSimpson.”

Jenner previously made the same claim in 2021, when she alleged on a podcast that Simpson had once told Nicole Brown Simpson that he would end her life and get away with it. “Obviously he did it, and he got away with it, and at one point he even told Nicole, ‘I’ll kill you and get away with it, ‘cause I’m O.J. Simpson,’” Jenner told the podcast host.

I have an issue. Because of all the rain and a few events, my back yard has really grown tall, most of it being weeds. So I’m trying to mow it. It’s tall enough that I took my weedeater out to cut it down to a level the lawnmower can manage.

That was the plan. The problem is that I found some movement in the weeds and found a small burrow with really young rabbits (like aren’t able to leave the hole young), and then I found a couple large enough to hop around but still a lot smaller than mom. I was trying to get them out of the weeds and one kept doing “I’m not here” even when I tried poking it with the end of a pole.”

I’m going to leave the stuff around the burrow, but I need to be able to cut down the rest of it and get my yard under control.

Edit: it explains why one of the big rabbits wasn’t running away like they normally would.

Tom Arnold mocks Roseanne after unhinged Mar-a-Lago rant

Earlier this week, comedian-turned-MAGA acolyte Roseanne Barr recorded a rambling video at former President Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida. Actor Tom Arnold had a few choice words for his ex-wife after watching it.

Barr went viral after attending a fundraiser last week for Arizona US Senate candidate Kari Lake, in which she recorded a video urging young Americans to not attend college, saying they “don’t teach you nothing good.” She also dismissed American university professors as “devil-worshipping, baby blood-drinking, Democrat donors.” The video, which was originally posted to Barr’s Instagram, has since been viewed more than two million times.

During a recent episode of his new Really Political podcast for Really American media, Barr’s ex-husband, Tom Arnold, quipped that Barr’s son filming the video amounted to “elder abuse,” and remarked on the “dumb—- picture of Trump” in the background. He also wondered aloud if she was “in the s——er with all the documents” while speaking to the camera, referencing the DOJ’s photos of classified government documents in a Mar-a-Lago bathroom.

“She’s so far down the rabbit hole,” Arnold said, in reference to Barr’s belief in the QAnon conspiracy theory, in which Trump supporters believe the former president spent his time in the White House battling a secret cabal of pedophiles who inhabited the highest echelons of the Democratic Party.

“She believes in a lot of things. She believes the Boston Marathon [bombing] was a false flag, she emailed every member of Congress saying that John McCain was a traitor,” he continued. “She had multiple personality disorder, which is a real thing. She had 27 different personalities, and only two of them liked me.”

Barr’s video also drew mockery from late night host Jimmy Kimmel. In response to her conspiracy claims, Kimmel sarcastically remarked that it “seems like she’s doing great.”

“I remember a time when Roseanne was a big Democrat donor. She campaigned for Bill Clinton, she gave lots of money… Of course, I remember a time when Donald Trump was a Democrat, too,” Kimmel said.

We would get rabbit nesting burrows in the dog yard at our previous house in Nashville. It was no-man land for the occasional coyote.

I did what you did - mow around the burrow.

The older rabbits would hop away from the mower, and the German Shepherds - when they were in the dog yard ignored the rabbits, and concentrated on squirrel exercise modules.

I posted a couple of weeks ago about some company taking it’s open source developed project and deciding to change the license. Another company has also tried it, and this time, the Linux Foundation has stepped into the fray. The application is Terraform, from a company named HashiCorp. Terraform is an Infrastructure as Code application.

In August, HashiCorp decided to change their license from Mozilla to a semi-proprietary license called the Business Source License. The community wasn’t happy about that, and created a fork called OpenTF, which the Linux Foundation picked up and renamed OpenTofu. The rest is kind of hilarious:

As Jim Zemlin, the Linux Foundation’s executive director, said at the time: “OpenTofu embodies our collective dedication to genuine open collaboration in infrastructure as code. It stands as a testament to our shared goal of delivering dependable, accessible tools for the tech world. OpenTofu’s dedication to open source principles underscores our shared vision of providing accessible, reliable tools that empower the tech community.”

HashiCorp was ticked off. CEO Dave McJannet snapped back: “Open source foundations are just a way for big companies to protect themselves from innovation.”

He added: “What does it say for the future of open source if foundations will just take it and give it a home? That is tragic for open source innovation. I will tell you, if that were to happen, there’ll be no more open source companies in Silicon Valley.”

Been a while since I posted a recipe

Lemon Marinated Twice Fried Chicken—it ain’t KFC…

Ingredients

1 whole chicken (about 4 pounds), cut into 8 pieces (legs split into drumsticks and thighs, breast halves and wings split), backbones reserved for stock (see notes)
1/4 cup plus 1 tablespoon fresh juice from 3 lemons
2 medium cloves garlic, minced
1 teaspoon kosher salt, plus more for seasoning
Freshly ground black pepper
1/8 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/8 teaspoon freshly grated nutmeg
Vegetable, peanut, canola, or olive oil, for frying
1 cup all-purpose flour
4 eggs, beaten
Lemon wedges, for serving

Directions
In a 1-gallon zipper-lock bag, combine chicken, lemon juice, garlic, salt, a generous grating of pepper, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Seal and shake to combine thoroughly. Refrigerate for at least 1 hour and up to 2 hours.

When ready to fry chicken, fill a wok, Dutch oven, or large cast iron skillet with about 1 1/2 inches of oil and heat oil until it registers 375°F on an instant-read thermometer. Fill a wide bowl with flour and another with egg.

Drain chicken. Working in batches if necessary, dredge each piece of chicken in flour, shaking off excess, then dip in egg to coat. Let excess egg drizzle off, then add to hot oil; the oil temperature will drop. Fry chicken, turning occasionally and maintaining an oil temperature between 325°F and 350°F, until chicken is golden brown outside and registers an internal temperature of 145°F for breasts and 155°F for drumsticks and thighs, about 15 minutes.

Transfer fried chicken to paper towels to drain, then transfer to a wire rack set over a baking sheet. Sprinkle with salt. Allow chicken to rest for a full 3 minutes after breast core temperature rises to 150°F. Allow to cool to room temperature, then re-fry in hot oil just before serving.

Serve right away with lemon wedges.

As I’ve told folks before, things in the hospitality industry were already ridiculous as far as hotel policy vs guest demands before COVID, but since COVID they’ve become outright comical. It doesn’t shock me anymore that hotels have so much trouble finding employees even 3 years after the pandemic with the way they’ve dumped more and more stress on the ones they have just to avoid angering a single cheapskate.

Something for Speaker Moses to chew on: Even when Trump is gone, the rot will remain. He is the culmination of decades of moral degradation and enforced ignorance in your party, not some oddity that popped up one day and hypnotized the faithful into following him. The only way that that could possibly work is if Trump not only loses in November, but he takes all the bootlickers with him on the way out. So long as asshats like Gaetz and MTG still occupy seats in Congress, then Trumpism will be alive and well in American politics. The push when he’s gone will not be to bury his memory, but instead a fight over who is the true “heir” to his brand of politics.

I don’t think even the MAGAt media really believe in the whole idea of a “Trump Dynasty” anymore, certainly not with the fervor they had back in 2017 when there was endless talk about one or all of Ivana’s brood riding Donny’s coattails to political office and (one day) the presidency. Hell, these days, the only person they might still think has a future in politics besides court jester is Barron, and that’s only because he’s avoided most of the shitshow by keeping his head down.

Just so everyone knows, there’s an autoplay vid embedded at the link below.

Five people have been killed and an attacker has been shot dead after multiple people were stabbed at Westfield Bondi Junction shopping centre in Sydney’s east.

NSW Police Assistant Commissioner Tony Cooke said the man walked into the centre at about 3.10pm and returned 10 minutes later at 3.20pm.

“As he moved through the centre, he engaged with about nine people,” Cooke said.

“It is clear that during that engagement he caused harm to those people, we believe, by stabbing them with a weapon he was carrying.

The perp is the fellow wearing the rugby shirt and clearly holding what looks to be a knife in his hand.

The major drag is the season is only 8 episodes long and there’s been no confirmation from Amazon yet on whether or not there will be another season or when we can expect it to release. So fans might as well start taking bets on which will come out first: Season 2 or Fallout 5*.

She said, ‘I’m home on shore leave,’
though in truth we were at sea
so I took her by the looking glass
and forced her to agree
saying, ‘You must be the mermaid
who took Neptune for a ride.’
But she smiled at me so sadly
that my anger straightway died

If music be the food of love
then laughter is its queen
and likewise if behind is in front
then dirt in truth is clean
My mouth by then like cardboard
seemed to slip straight through my head
So we crash-dived straightway quickly
and attacked the ocean bed

At this rate I expect he’ll show up to court Monday in a WHAAAAAAAAmbulance then get carried in on a stretcher, moaning about how the deep state gave him typhoid fever

If his health collapses he will blame Biden for persecuting him into the ground.

Best thing to do is straight-up tell Trump that if he pulls that shit again, his bail will be revoked and he’ll end up cooling his heels in Rikers Island for the duration of the trial. You know, just to make sure he’s in court on time.

And if he does do it again, then it’s straight to a cell. No ifs, ands or buts.

The MSC Aries is associated with Israeli billionaire Eyal Ofer’s Zodiac Maritime Shipping Company, Reuters reported.

There were 20 Filipinos on board the ship.

RawStory: “Not going to be able to sleep tonight’: Truth Social boosters panicking as stock plummets

With the value of stock in Trump Media and Technology Group (TMTG) continuing its unceasing slide downward since the technology company went public, supporters of Donald Trump who profess to have invested in the company are increasingly expressing dismay about the collapse on the former president’s Truth Social platform.

According to a report from the Daily Beast’s Noah Kirsch, faith in the troubled company that was reported to have lost millions last year right after the public offering, is in short supply at the same time the former president was telling supporters at Mar-a-Lago that all is well, stating: “We have over $200 million dollars in cash, which is very liquid.”

Those not in attendance at the Mar-a-Lago gathering appear to be less than assured. On Truth Social, the main product of TMTG, commenters are commiserating with each other as they watch the stock spiral downward, losing over half its value in just several weeks.

re: Trump and perjury: It’s very possible that Trump will perjure himself on the stand, but it’s very rare that prosecutors actually pursue charges for perjury on the stand. Rather, they want to catch defense witnesses in lies, so they can discredit their whole testimony with, “Well, were you lying in your deposition, or are you lying now?” Convincing a jury they can’t believe either version of a witness’s story is the end goal. They would only hold the threat of perjury over Trump’s head if they needed him to say something specific to bolster their case, but that would be more likely for one of their own witnesses, not a witness for the defense.

190
Dr Lizardo  Apr 13, 2024 • 6:47:18am

re: #189 Nerdy Fish

I can’t imagine Trump’s lawyers would let him take the stand, because he’d discredit himself in short order and the prosecutors would use that to great effect with the jury.

But then again…Trump might overrule his lawyer’s advice and insist on taking the stand, because he genuinely believes himself to be the smartest guy in the room.

191
Nerdy Fish  Apr 13, 2024 • 6:47:36am

With Trump being such an abject moron, it’s entirely possible that him testifying could blow apart his entire defense by discrediting all of his more intelligent co-conspirators, accusing them of lying in order to make himself look good on the stand. That, more than anything else, is the reason why his lawyers will never let him take the stand, if they can avoid it.

He took the stand in his civil trial and it was a disaster. He just kept attacking the court and the process in his answers…I don’t even think he listened to the questions he was asked.

In a criminal trial, he’d try to do the same, and the jury would be so turned off by his behavior that any possible allies he had on the jury would be ready to abandon him.

I just can’t wait to see him getting continually yelled at by the judge for muttering things just loud enough for prosecutors to hear while they present their case. That was the galling thing to me about his civil trials, how he had the balls to just sit there and run his mouth in the face of normal courtroom decorum. In a criminal trial, that could get him tossed in the drunk tank for a while to cool his heels until he can behave himself.

Well the house is pretty much back to normal now. Over the last 2 weeks the 2 youngest kids were back in town. So one or both have been hanging out during that time. We spread some of my wife’s ashes at the lake where we would take our corgi to run and act out in the water. We did that last Sunday which would have been my wife’s 62nd birthday. Daughter headed back to Denver Monday, and early this morning I dropped the youngest off at Amtrak in Pittsburgh for his ride back to DC. Deflated the queen size inflatable mattress in my music/game room and stored it back in its place in the closet. Got the living room back in order.

Yesterday I also got all the tax/title/license squared away for the motorcycle, so I am now officially the owner of the bike. Just need to get inspection and all will be good to go. Too bad it is looking like cool/cold rainy weather for at least the next 4 or 5 days (as it has been the last 3 days also). Lot of flooding going on in the area.

I don’t mind them, as long as they’re not intrusive. Pay-to-win games bother me. But if it’s for purely cosmetic stuff, and if those cosmetics are done well, I’ll pay a little money into the revenue stream. Several of the main games I play are live service games that are really enjoyable to me, so I expect to put up with a certain level of microtransactions.

I used to enjoy collecting and reading his comics back in the 70’s though…

Trump’s trial will ‘turn off’ Christian voters regardless of verdict: ex-GOP lawmaker

rawstory.com

Former Colorado congressman Ken Buck made clear that former President Donald Trump could be badly bruised once trial gets going and unsavory details go public in the case accusing him of fudging his business records to block from public view payments to prevent alleged affairs with porn star Stormy Daniels and ex-Playboy Playmate Karen McDougal from going public weeks before the 2016 election.

“The key to me is the essence of this case has to do with Donald Trump having an extramarital affair; they are paying a woman to have that affair and then paying that woman to not talk about the affair during the campaign for president in 2016,” the now-citizen Buck said during an appearance on CNN.

uh…I hate to break it to Ken but that ain’t gonna happen.

What WILL happen is that Trump’s Megachurch Pulpit Pimp Posse will double down on backing Gawd’s Anointed King citing the first trial as absolute truth that Trump is under attack from the Demonic forces of THE DEEP STATE and they will whip up the marks in a frenzy to show support for Trump.

Yesterday, Trump said he’d take the stand in his upcoming trial. Which made me LOL because:

1) I can’t imagine his lawyers would be dumb enough to let him actually do that

2) He’d commit perjury under cross examination in less than 90 seconds

So…yeah, he’s not gonna do that. But honest to god, I really hope he does!!

He has repeatedly followed the lawyers’ advice before, including taking the 5th. No reason to think he won’t be silent this time and be a good boy in the courtroom.

Senate Republicans plan to overturn the new Biden rule capping bank junk fees.

And guess who is leading the charge in the Senate to overturn that rule?

Senate Republicans are preparing to go on the record in favor of gouging Americans with sky-high “junk fees,” just months before a major presidential election where the economy will play a deciding role.

In a recent report in the American Prospect, reporter David Dayen delved into the GOP’s response to a new rule from President Joe Biden’s Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) capping credit card junk fees at $8, helmed by Sen. Tim Scott (R-South Carolina). Scott — the Senate Banking Committee ranking member who is thought to be on the short list of potential running mates for former President Donald Trump — is leading the charge on a bill to scrap the rule. His one-page bill deems that the CFPB rule limiting junk fees “shall have no force or effect.”

I fucking hate micro transactions. I stay away from all that “live service game” crap and most just play retro stuff.

I wont play a pay to win game, don’t have a problem with a company using that model if it works for them, after all their job is to make money, but there are an awful lot of games out there and I don’t have to play it. Now companies that add pay to win style microtransactions sometime after launch can bite me and pretty much guarantees I won’t buy one of their games again.

I don’t have a philosophical issue with pay to win but you have to let people know that shit up front. If you work 60 hours a week and decide it is worth dropping $20 on a game to avoid an annoying 3 hour grind to get to more interesting parts of the game, more power to you.

Because harming minorities is more important to them. Making sure that they are not on the bottom of the totem pole and others rank beneath them is more valuable than improving their own lives.

re: #189 Nerdy Fish

re: Trump and perjury: It’s very possible that Trump will perjure himself on the stand, but it’s very rare that prosecutors actually pursue charges for perjury on the stand.

The smack down for perjury on the stand comes when the judge sentences the convicted defendant. The judge will add a few more years, increase the fine, and lengthen post incarceration probation.

Yep!! He was a Texan who knew his community and the South.

When he signed the CRA, he said to Bill Moyers: ‘Well, I think we may have lost the south for your lifetime - and mine.’ See theguardian.com

It is clear that it has been lost for even longer because of the vile efforts by the modern GOP to revert to the “good old days”, with Republicans playing the role of the Dixiecrats, but infecting the entire nation, not just the South.

And here goes Goldenfart getting ready to shoot his mouth off in Pennsylvania

‘A dark day for our country’: Trump flips out and points fingers as felony trial looms

Just prior to holding a rally in the political hotbed of Schnecksville, Pennsylvania late Saturday afternoon, Donald Trump took to his Truth Social platform to snarl and complain and point fingers over his impending 34-felony count trial set to commence in Manhattan on Monday morning.

The former president, who has been busily endorsing Republican candidates on social media, started off slowly and then built into a full-fledged meltdown over his most pressing legal problem at the

On Truth Social, he first began with, “Heading to Philadelphia and then to a BIG Rally in Allentown, Pennsylvania,” before launching his diatribe.

“There is NO WAY I can be given a Fair (Biden) Trial on Monday with Judge Juan Merchan, who is totally conflicted and corrupt, presiding. Soros backed Alvin Bragg, the ‘District Attorney’ who has, along with his sidekick Leticia James, let violent crime flourish in New York, never wanted to bring this case because it is a sham and mockery of our legal system. He brought it anyway for purposes of saving the WORST PRESIDENT IN THE HISTORY OF THE UNITED STATES. ELECTION INTERFERENCE!”

rawstory.com

And it appears that Pinocchio Puss is making Pennsylvania his #1 target

thehill.com

Former President Trump is turbocharging his efforts to win back Pennsylvania with visits set in critical swing areas of the state on Saturday.

It’s part of an aggressive push by the former president to make inroads in the battleground area, which is seen as President Biden’s home turf.

Pennsylvania is the biggest swing state on the map, boasting 19 Electoral College votes. If Trump can capture it in November, it could severely narrow Biden’s path to victory.

Trump will hold a rally in the Lehigh Valley region on Saturday after attending a fundraiser in Bucks County outside of Philadelphia.

“This is going to be one of many, many visits,” said David Urban, who was a senior adviser to Trump’s 2016 campaign and played a role in the campaign’s efforts to flip the state that same year.

“If you look at ‘16 and ‘20 and how many visits were made, there are going to be equally as many plus more,” he added.

The famine has been caused by the siege Israel imposed just after the 7 October attacks. At the time the Israeli defence minister Yoav Gallant said: “I have ordered a complete siege on the Gaza Strip. There will be no electricity, no food, no fuel, everything is closed.

“We are fighting human animals, and we are acting accordingly.”

Israel was forced by international pressure to allow in limited supplies of aid. But over six months it has not been anything like enough. Israel argued, inaccurately, that hunger in Gaza was caused by Hamas stealing and stockpiling aid and the UN’s failure to distribute what was left.

Close supporters of Prime Minister Netanyahu continue to deny there is a famine. One of them, an MP called Boaz Bismuth, told me at Israel’s parliament that there was no famine in Gaza and allegations that Israel was starving civilians were based on antisemitism. The evidence of famine, however, is overwhelming.

The Erez crossing, despite the prime minister’s promise to Joe Biden, is still closed. I managed to get close enough to look down on the Erez terminal. Nothing was moving. I couldn’t see people, let alone trucks. Reports in Israel say the government is talking about opening another crossing, less easily accessible to Israeli demonstrators who do not want any food or medical aid to enter Gaza while the hostages are still there and have been blocking some convoys.

re: #275 A Cranky One

This asshole claims free speech, but yet doesn’t know where it applies, and complains about it on a private website, which has nothing to do with government. I thought he was supposed to be a genius lawyer (according to him, of course)

That reminds me I got a text from DT’s campaign. I blocked the number and sent it on its way to Verizon to report it as junk.

Another 3 Body Problem question — only for those who read the books and have seen the Netlix series:

Was Evans’ conversation with his Lord as stupid in the book as in the series? Or was that another fail from the D&D duo who ruined the last 2 (maybe 3?) seasons of GOT?

In any case, it seems strange that intelligent life could evolve on their home world at all.

I was involved in an incident like this while I was home on leave from the army in the early 70s. I was outside working on my parents’ lawn. A neighbor had come to visit with my stepmother. They called me into the house. The neighbor explained that she had been going through some of her late husband’s belongings and was wondering if I could identify an object he had brought home from the war. She set a box down on our kitchen table, opened it, and lifted out what appeared to be a 75mm artillery round, complete with casing and fuse. I suppressed a squeal and told her to set it down very gently on a folded towel that happened to be handy. Then I told them to run, not walk, to a house across the street.
We called the fire department. I mentioned that military ordnance was suspected so they also sent the nearby Air Force base’s crash rescue department, of which my father happened to be chief. He arrived first with his big O-11a crash trucks, followed by a small fleet of civilian fire apparatus. He found us huddling with the other neighbors behind a concrete wall at the end of the block. His first words were “OK, what have you done now?” I explained. He sent most of the fire equipment away and helped the cops evacuate the neighborhood. The Air Force explosive ordnance types (eg “bomb squad”) arrived and took the shell away to be blown up with C-4 at their bomb range. They told us later that it had in fact been inert, no explosive, in spite of the live fuse. The ATF investigated and quickly closed the case.

They run up against the make-up and pose stylistic edge of drag queens. Maybe that’s why RWingers hate drag queens - they get thrills from them?
