In a perfect world the police would take him down lethally, announce he’s been killed, and only give his first name to the media so they couldn’t dig into him and make him a celebrity that other would be shooters want to emulate.

I’ll be honest, I’ve never understood the logic behind this “If we don’t make them ‘celebrities,’ then it will discourage copy cats from trying to emulate them.” The evidence that mass shootings are inspired by a desire for “fame” seems scarce at best.
