Actually, I don’t think most good Christian Americans oppose abortion. Not even most American Catholics oppose abortion. The ones who oppose it have to make a lot of noise to compensate for the fact that they are in the minority. But most women know that pregnancy is tough, even when you want to have children, and that all sorts of things go wrong if you don’t want to have one.
