I’m one of those rare people who actually like some elements of brutalism in civic and academic buildings. Brutalism does not work in churches.

There’s a lot GKC designed churches (Which were actually usually designed by Isi Metzstein and Andy MacMillan) in central Scotland, particularly around Glasgow and the new towns. The interesting thing about them is that although they look brutalist on the outside, the insides are nearly always gorgeous, with great use of light and space.

So you end up with something like St Bride’s in East Kilbride, which looks like a power station from the outside, but inside looks like this.
