re: #355 makeitstop
I came from a very poor neighborhood, but because I scored unusually high on some aptitude tests I ended up in a pretty affluent school for elementary.
Let’s just say I encountered quite a few budding Mitt Romneys, and I fought a few of them - which got me tossed back into public schools, where I was much more comfortable.
I went to elementary school in a mostly black and Latino neighborhood where I was picked on a bit for being bookish and nerdy, but there were kids who stood up for me as well.
Then we moved to a mostly white working-class neighborhood and they picked on me mercilessly.
