Facebook bought Instagram to get a new generation into their advertising ecosystem. They’ll do the same with any new threat that doesn’t grow too quickly for them to throw a billion dollars at.

1) TikTok as a current contender.

2) other tech giants have woken up to the idea. If FB tried to buy out an Instagram today there would be a bidding war and Google and Apple have deeper pockets
