Which is why I think conviction is needed. The current USSC will not disqualify Trump unless they have to, and I suspect that 5 of the justices will not be pressured unless Trump is convicted.

And even then the USSC may simply decide that the 14th Amendment puts the onus on Congress to make that decision via law.

The Bolded part is exactly what I think the USSC will do. Section 5 says Congress shall enforce the amendment with legislation. It would be a very easy point for the conservative Supremes to say ONLY Congress can regulate this point.
