They can still get more “things.” Livelihoods can be rebuilt, however painfully slow. Lives themselves cannot be replaced.
You are correct that lives cannot be replaced. Those lives can however not be worth living when the struggle becomes too great. This is how a lot of people live, too many people who cling day to day to survive another day. Livelihoods cannot always be rebuilt when the losses are too great and the will too weakened. Not everyone has a fall back position, a place to land when things go wrong.
