Have you ever watched Yojimbo? (Kurosawa. Toshiro Mifune.)

It opens with a farmer’s son running off, screaming back at his father, “a quick exciting life for me!”

At the end, Sanjuro (Mifune) spares the kid’s life, telling him to go back home … that the simple/boring life is best.

/mind you, it’s not that there’s anything transcendental about “boring”
