I’m not so sure that what wouldn’t happen is that they would cherry pick all the profitable routes and then ignore the unprofitable routes. Then those of us in rural america would either pay through the nose for service or not get any service at all.

Here’s an area government can have a role—all or nothing by regulation. However rural America I think needs to deal with the fact that running rural route IS uneconomical, and they should accept delivery to more centralized locations to reduce costs.
