The income issue is one that would show that Mitt pays less in tax as a result of reliance on capital gains and interest income than his tax bracket would suggest. It can also potentially show conflicts of interest and sources of income that may shed light on other relationships.

That’s why he hasn’t released it in the primaries - with an eye towards the general election where Obama could potentially argue that Mitt’s tax burden is indicative of what’s wrong with the tax code and why we need to make serious changes to the tax code.

I believe that Obama released his tax returns in April of 2008. Hillary Clinton followed soon after.
