Again, the crime may seem harmless, but it’s actually pretty bad. A gun isn’t a safe thing. It wasn’t being carried by a responsible person, and it was being carried to a place— the 9/11 memorial— where the cops are pretty jumpy.

I’m not in favor of jail time in general, but it’s no more ridiculous here than it is for any other victimless crime, and less ridiculous than jail time for dealing weed.
