I don’t think there’s anything the Dems can do while Republicans are still in congress. Election are the only solution.

Reform the whole tax code, reduce overall rates, eliminate all schedule A deductions and most all deductions. Why should renters subsidize home owners or childless and singles subsidize large families or why should I subsidize my neighbors church giving. Most tax payers do not itemize anyway. The list goes on and on. In return, select rates that will increase revenue modestly. I think both sides could go for such and arrangement.
