WATCH LIVE: Donald Trump’s Celebration of 100 Days of Failure in Harrisburg, PA

Politics • Views: 39,912

YouTube

Here’s the live video feed of Trump’s “100 Days” rally in Harrisburg, even though I absolutely hate hearing that rotten bastard’s voice, because this is going to be a serious festival of denial, Orwellian double-speak, and all-around incoherent bad craziness as he tries to paint his record of failure after failure as an unbroken cavalcade of TREMENDOUS WINNING! So much winning we’re already tired of it.

With any luck, there won’t be too many more of these because he’s headed for impeachment or removal from office for unfitness to serve.

Amazing how Pence can smear and slander and attack liberals and in the next sentence turn around and claim Trump is “making America great.” Only right wingers allowed in this America.

More proof that Pennsylvania is like the 4 on a die. Once you are out of the corners (Erie, Pittsburgh, Philly, Allentown/Bethlehem/Wilkes-Barre) you are in the deepest of the deep Red State that makes Mississippi look like Sweden!

I went to a conference at Penn State a few years ago. State College was beautiful that autumn weekend. Somehow I got a bit lost on my way out (pre-GPS for me). I drove for about 30 or 40 minutes until I was just deep in the hollers. I stopped at a little gas station to ask directions, but the clientele had a “meth” vibe, so I went on until I came to a major north-south road and went in the proper direction. Such beautiful country; apparently such desperate lives, I’ve later learned.

The world is watching Pumpkin Pinochet’s Nuremberg rally and they’re probably consulting on how to remove the dollar as the world’s reserve currency. China and Japan are accelerating their plans to dump US Treasury securities. Europe may eject the US from NATO and set up a new mutual security pact.

I’m really fearing that the Trump Slump is going to accelerate us into a depression and the Republican congress will make the same mistakes of the late 20s early 30s. I wish I saw an FDR that can pull us out, but I do not believe we have a national will anymore.

I’m embarrassed for my home state, so I’m thinking of switching to New York. I was actually born in Rochester, but moved to PA at the age of 3.

Then I moved back to New York at 21.

Then California at 24.

FDR was able to pull the country together because he projected optimism, the belief that things weren’t as dark as they seemed and that we could, and would, get through it.

Trump? He pulls the country apart by appealing to fear, the belief that things are much worse than they are, and that if we don’t give him everything he wants, it’ll only get worse.

He’s like the anti-FDR.

“This will all be more uphill than he thought it would be because I think he had the old-fashioned American idea that you run for office, you win, then people behave as though you won.”

Now, remember this is the Noot who did everything he could to poison discourse in the Clinton years, to Otherize and demonize the Clintons, and then when Obama was elected went full National Review-style racist.

Yep. I do too. Sigh. How the hell did we go from Obama to Trump?

Because Obama refused to be white, and also refused to tell black people to shut up about being shot by cops and not getting jobs they’re qualified for and not being allowed to rent apartments, etc.

That’s the irony. Trump defeated any chance of the Bush family returning to the WH anytime soon but he also ensured that they’ll be seen in a more favorable light. God knows I did not like W but I appreciate that he did not scapegoat immigrants. I appreciate that he seemed to treat his political opponents as people. I can’t imagine him engaging in name calling the way Trump has (I know W had his silly nicknames.

Fortunately I think Bachmann is done politically. And as much as I hate to give the loon any credit, I think she was probably eventually done in the GOP primary because she’s a woman. She probably didn’t have the financing either which is why I don’t think King will replace Trump either.

My point is, as bad as Drumpf is (and make no mistake about it, he is a fuckup of galactic proportions), there’s plenty of other garbage at the bottom of that particular whiskey barrel for the GOP to draw on, when Drumpf’s term is over and they need to select a new fuckface to try to move forward.

And the Republicans who know better aren’t going to do anything about it, because even though they can see the Trumpers are nuts, it still a voting bloc they think they can manipulate for their own purposes.

re: #107 HappyWarrior

You’re getting this from a guy who refused to acknowledge W as President from 2001-05 and someone who definitely had what people called BDS, I definitely would take Bush over Trump right now.

Here’s the thing, though - if trump were to magically disappear right this minute, his presidency will still compare favorably to Dubya’s in a pretty blatant respect: body count. 9/11 + Iraq War + Katrina…you get the idea (and yes, I’m putting 9/11 in there because perhaps it could have been prevented had the whole “Bin Laden determined to strike in US” document been taken seriously). Bush’s decisions - either through malice aforethought or sheer incompetence - cost 100s of thousands of lives, destabilized countless nations, ruined the economy, and paved the way for the rise of trump.

No, I don’t miss him one microscopic bit, and this nebulous, ever-present attempt to rehabilitate him makes me more than a little nervous. Are we really about to fall for yet another Overton Window-shifting trick? :/

I know. In fact, my main thought when trump got elected was, “Well fuck, now we’re going to get the Bush administration on a cocktail of meth and steroids.” And that’s already happened when you look at his flagrantly craptastic cabinet choices.

I don’t think it’s rehabilitating to say that I would prefer a relatively sane and predictable asshole to one who might potentially use nuclear weapons on North Korea. Pre-emptively.

I waver between that feeling and the “optimistic” flip side - trump’s “mainfest awfulness” (as Krystal Ball put it) might be such that maybe he *won’t* get away with starting a major war after all. Remember all that “you’re either with us or with the terrorists” crap? Remember how Iraq war opponents were smeared, demeaned, demonized, and dismissed? Of course trump would use an even worse version of that garbage rhetoric, but maybe, just maybe, enough people will live up to another quote of Dubya’s: “Ain’t gonna fool me again.”

Along those lines, see the following:

The 2013 essay she’s referring to was first published here. And as usual, the prescience is downright terrifying:

The worst thing about the Iraq war was not that people got away with lying. It was that they did not - and it did not matter.

The Iraq war is notable not only for journalistic weakness, but for journalistic futility: the futility of fact itself. Fact could not match the fabrications of power. Eventually, our reality shifted to become what they conceived. “I could have set myself on fire in protest on the White House lawn and the war would have proceeded without me,” wrote Bush speechwriter David Frum.

That was the message of the Iraq war: There is no point in speaking truth to power when power is the only truth.

We lost more in Iraq than a war. We lost accountability and faith in our institutions, and most of all, we lost the outrage that accompanies that loss, because we came to expect it and accept it as normal. This quiet acquiescence is, in the end, as damaging as any lie we were told.

Sound familiar? :/

New vendor, no track record, so they may be good, bad or indifferent. They are Kingston Tech so I doubt they’ll be fakes but they could be misidentified. Our lawn consists of juniper bushes in the front and concrete around some tree landscaping in the back. mr. klys did not want a high maintenance lawn. (I keep fantasizing about changing it to something else low maintenance but…)

I’d love to put in some raised beds in the backyard, but the reality is that I have no idea how long we’re going to stay here and the dirt would be a decent chunk of $$$ so I opted against it for this year. If it looks like we’re still going to be here through next summer, I may work on it then and see about adding in a split to the irrigation pipe in the back that I installed with my dad so that I can put in some drip irrigation into there as well.

My lawn is mostly weeds, with some grass mixed in ;) My house is built on the side of a hill; while it makes for a gorgeous view down into the valley, mowing the back yard is an arduous process, made all the more difficult by the fact that the grass there grows much more quickly due to all of the water running down from the top of the hill and from the terraced garden, especially.

I’m sure he doesn’t need any padding.

That would work too, although an elbow in the face would be the best, or a full speed check. You know he would have his head down - boom.

re: #180 klys (maker of Silmarils)

In the meantime, pots.

We had a lawn in front, but when the drought started, we ripped it out and covered it in mulch. One problem is that when MOST people do that, they put down landscape cloth, so that the weeds don’t grow. Not Mrs. FBW! No, she HATES landscape cloth, and insisted we’d just pull the weeds when they came up, till they finally gave up trying.

Turn out by ‘We’, she meant ME. So, this afternoon, I spent two hours pulling grass tufts. Enough to fill the Big Green Compost Bin from Recology. Probably 150# of that shit. This is after pulling TWO big green bins full of thistles in the back yard two weeks ago!

I like weeding better than gardening, oddly enough. Weeding is satisfying. It restores order and gives one the brief hope that one can actually control something.

I should remulch the tree landscaping in the backyard but that’d mean either getting mulch delivered (and like …I’d only need the minimum amount) or buying a hauling a ton of bags again. And the theme of this year’s landscaping contributions is CHEAP.

So it just sort of languishes. But at least between the rain and fixing the irrigation last year we did save the tree.
